Whelp…put me in the "it was ok" camp. Definitely had a few moments that made me laugh (pretty much all of Conan's) and Forky had a much smaller role which was nice because man I found him annoying in TS-4.

But overall there was only one funny character to me. The story didn't really blow me away. The typical TS characters had zero to do. The emotional hook of Jessie realizing her kid as an adult named her daughter after her didn't really resonate with me at all. If anything the scene where Bonnie breaks down crying in the car after showing her mom what her friends said about her hit me as a parent much harder…but that's still peanuts to other emotional Pixar movies like Inside Out, Coco, Toy Story 3, and Up.

How they showed the "imagination/playing" of the kids was pretty entertaining. Enjoyed all of those little moments.

My oldest (14) found Bonnie to be pretty annoying. His exact words were "adoption" and said the story should have been about the other girl she seemed way more interesting.

Also…in the world they've created everyone should be at least suspicious that these toys are sentient and alive. The group of buzz lightyears 5 minutes in to "waking up" somehow discovered fire and we've got toys sending emails and riding horses in this one…at the very least Sid has a conspiracy YouTube channel about toys being alive and a group of followers with evidence and cameras backing up his claims from his traumatic childhood experience…

Anyway…better than 4…but still WAY below 1-3. Props to those who really liked it. Think I'm just one that checked out after 3 and don't think these characters have any more important stories to tell.

Agree with this completely. Really wanted to love it as it was the first Toy Story I physically got to watch in theatres with my daughters, but the emotions just didn't hit. This is a story about a girl struggling to find friendship and as a Dad of 2 girls, I should have felt something more than just contempt for the 'mean girl' trope displayed in this. The whole "Jessie" thing didn't do a single thing for me either. I was actually confused at first as to why the lunchbox was even buried and initially thought it was a tribute to a dead child?

Also the overall animation was a step down from Toy Story 4. I just re watched it getting ready for TS5 and the opening scene of Woody rescuing RC car from the rain gutter is amongst the best CGI animation ever. This movie didn't even come close to that level of craftmanship (albeit a couple cool 'imaginary' sequences as you said).

The Jessie name actually did really hit me, partly because it was Jessie realizing how much she did mean to Emily.

I re-watched 1 and 2 yesterday and wow, TS2 is just a perfect movie. The whole gang is involved in the adventure, great jokes, and a fantastic action sequence at the end.

I was thrown off in that Bonnie and Blaze (?) for much of the movie felt like they were totally different age groups. Not just size but maturity. Was confusing to me regarding them being made friends. Blaze seemed like she could be her babysitter.

How did woody, bo peep and duke kaboom end up so close to Bonnie's house? Toy Story 4 was a road trip. Did they drive the skunk mobile all the way to Bonnie's? If they're that close, what is the point in staying with the Lost Toys?

Did like the movie overall though. Kinda sad that the cast has grown so big over the years, that they just lock 90% of them in the garage for most of the movie.

That was my main disconnect as well. Just seemed like they were different age groups. That, and I wanted more woody and buzz. Still some good moments and it's much better than 4. The after credits scene was solid

I believe they are different age groups. That's the point. "Play" is not just limited to little kids. How about instead of getting our kids to grow up fast, let's let kids still be kids. The story hits more if you believe blaze and Bonnie are different age groups.

Thank you. It was pretty obvious to me that Blaze is four or so years older than Bonnie. I don't know why the idea of different age kids playing together is confusing.

I can't remember it, but one of the characters is 9. The dance kids or maybe Blaze?

I thought the same thing too, but I thought their age was closer than 4 years. My wife didn't really care about the age difference but I thought that there was some unstated things that led us to believe she was older like having a laptop. Which would make sense because she seemed to have figured out how to balance technology and playing with her toys.

If anything, I think there was a larger theme to this movie about playing make believe and not necessarily about playing with toys. Bonnie's parents were clueless about technology but they'd ask Bonnie about her make believe stories with the toys. There seems to be a lesson in there somewhere about encouraging our kids to use their imagination to make believe by asking them about their playtime.

Agreed. TS5 at a thematic level is near perfection. It's does a fantastic job at taking today's issues with childhood and putting them into the TS universe.

Imaginative play is nearly loss with many kids. It's devastating.

Agreed on this. Unrealistic for that age group to have/allow sleepovers together. But I think they were closing the loop from the earlier sleep over. They should have left that part out and just let them be friends that see each other and play together.

Ive been rewatching them all since we went and watched T5

Toy Story 3 is the best. It provides the most laughter, tugs at your heart the most, and was written so well. It has everything

I thought the first 3 was perfect for a trilogy. 4 felt more forced. However for 5, maybe it's getting older as the kids get older but that hit way more than I thought it would for me. For a scene they almost removed from TS2 it really ended up shaping TS5 and helped bring it full circle.

I do indeed. Daughters aged 7 and 11. Four years difference might've been a bit of a stretch (thus the hedge of "or so"). But I see kids of various ages playing all the time.

What scene is this? It's been a long time since I've seen the second one.

Sure, but playing vs sleepover buddies is a pretty large gap for kids in those age groups. Either way, the story was supposed to have them be similar age whereas the portrayal made Blaze seem much older. It was just an observation.

The only kids I have witnessed with a four year age gap playing together were siblings or cousins. Kids generally don't want to hang out with younger kids.

That said, TS5 is a masterpiece.

I think the TS2 scene they're referencing is the whole Sarah Macclachan song showing Jessie's arc with Emily.

I think Bonnie is supposed to be around 8, but she comes off a little younger/less mature than her peers. I would guess Blaze is maybe 1-2 years older. These are 2 girls looking for friends - they're smart, imaginative and a little weird. I think it's reasonable for them to play together. I think the problem was Bonnie's appearance wasn't aged up much from previous movies.

My rankings: TS2, TS3, TS1, TS5….TS4. TS1 is great but honestly Sid is so awful he makes it less enjoyable to rewatch. TS4 just felt like a made for TV movie to me.

I hadn't realized that I never watched TS4 until a few days ago. We watched it at home and from all the negative stuff ive seen here about TS4 I was prepared for a snoozer.

I don't get all the hate though. I really enjoyed it. I loved the antique store part of the story. The lights at the carnival make it fun to watch. I think its very underrated

Younger kids almost always want to play or fit in with older kids. Most kids will totally shun anyone thats one year younger than them. In this case, it was the older kid that was pressing to hang out with a younger child.

I also felt her ranch life was a little far fetched

I would rank it fifth. But it is absolutely worthy of the Toy Story name. And most here seem to be sleeping on the best part: Duke Kaboom.

It didn't bother me, probably because i have a 7 and 5 year old who play with two neighbor girls (from different families, not related) on our street who are 10 and 11. Even if my 7 year old isn't here, they will come and play with my 5 year old. I didn't find it that odd.

Saw it today. We all loved it. Not sure where it fits in our rankings but thought it was very good.

I'm not sure why everyone is going off on a tangent about their ages. It was clearly stated early in the movie that Bonnie is 8 and was clearly stated that blaze is 9 (the electronics said she was 9.5). So it's not a mystery how old they are.

I agree that they probably should have made blaze look younger because she did look older than 9 and looked more than older 1 year older than Bonnie. But they were not 4 years apart and it's not weird for an 8 and 9 year old to play with each other and sleep over.

Just got out and thought it was good. I don't remember them saying how old Bonnie was but they definitely seem to have a decent age gap based on how they act. Blaze rides horses and has a laptop and Bonnie just got her first kid's tablet.

First time I've been to the movies in a while. 11:00 showing and the actual movie didn't start until 11:30 because of all of the ads and previews. They even showed two different trailers for the same movie. My 4 year old kept trying to guess if the preview we just watched was the last and he was wrong 3 times so the wife and him just went to make a bathroom run after the 6th preview.

Watched it with family yesterday. Packed matinee showing. Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. The level of animation was really something. I thought the school bus in the end credits scene was real until a kid got off the bus.
