You are right, the contingency plan was to have it Saturday after the game. Reason being that people would still be in town after the game and willing to come out. That won't happen unless we get some kind of monsoon that makes the court decide to extend the window for that long. The way it stands right now, if is was to rain today and tomorrow, and then revert back to the same weather we have been having, it could be dried out again by Saturday.
Anyway, this brings up a good question that we are going to have to address in situations like this in future years for sure. As mentioned before, it's about the spirit, not the date. I know that the tradition is before the game, etc, etc. But in the choice between no Fire at all or a Fire that happens after the game, I would choose the latter. Until we are out of survival mode and Bonfire is completely self-sustaining again and the biggest thing in town, we have to take what we can get to keep it going for future generations.
