What's a new burn date contingent on? The burn ban being lifted?

If it can't be burned before the game what are the plans? Burn it to celebrate a new coach? Burn it before a big basketball game?? Just randomly burn it?

I feel bad for everyone who has worked so hard this year. I know we only burn it to make room for next year, but there's a sense of accomplishment when you see all your hard work reduced to a pile of ashes.

The commissioners will meet again on Monday to see if the ban can be lifted. It all depends on the rain. As far as burning, no date has been set. The Reds will probably meet and consult the board and figure something out.

Maybe it can be held later in the week and all the ol' Ags in town for the game can come.

Honestly, I'd think a late-night Thursday burn after yell practice would be the best we could hope for at this point.

that'd be awfully late, but as for the best that could be hoped for...probably right.

What does this mean for ASB as an organization as far as finances and support go?

To the fish or anyone else that reads this forum, please do not get downtrodden, and hold your head proud. It is when we are faced with adversity and come through it that gives the Fightin' Texas Aggie his/her character.

It is very frustrating not being able to do something about this. How is the word getting out? I feel bad for anyone who is driving just to find out there is no Burn. Hopefully it will work out. Perhaps we can rally like we did last time to pay the fines and try to make up any financial burden this causes.
Comeby!

Burn that mf'er anyways. I'll chip in for fines, etc. We CANT wait til after the game.

The damage to SB's reputation lighting it again would be worse than a delay. Otherwise SB is not going to be able to find anyone to host if they keep flauting the will of local governments. We need to choke back and deal with it and build the confidence of the community. This isn't just about this stack, it's about the Bonfires over the next 10 years.

It seems that the problem is not about raising money for fines (we have proven that can be done), but more about keeping our organization within the confines of the law. Unfortunately, we need more friends in high places.

Was there much discussion about a ceremonial exception? If so, what was the reasoning for shooting it down?

Ceremonial exemption is only covered at the state level, not the county level, at least in most counties, and confusion on this point is what led to the situation in 2005 IIRC.

Keep your heads up!

If anyone out there wants to show their support, please use this delay as an opportunity to ADVERTISE!

Let people know what's going on, let people know where, and as soon as a date and time can be set...please tell anyone that cares!

I sure hope a time can be arranged soon, for as close to the game as possible...

Just after the game would be a great time, but asking for trouble in terms of alcohol IMHO...The Fran stuff may even help people come out win or lose.

Great now we won't win the game.

Keep your chins up guys.

The date matters for logistics, not the spirit of what you're doing.

of course we'll win - centerpole will still be standing after midnight!!! =D

Maybe I will be able to make it in for burn after all this year - keep us updated please

OK, just updated the website.

Please spread the word. THERE WILL BE NO EVENT ON SATURDAY NIGHT. I feel for those that are already driving tonight, but maybe most of them were waiting until tomorrow. The late notice sucks, I know, but there is not much we can do about that.

The date is still up in the air. The Court will meet again and allow us a burn if conditions allow. This will be a fairly small window, so keep checking in for details.

Those that are driving tonight can be good Aggies and go to the Basketball and Soccer games.

wunderground has it as 50% for Hearne on Sunday.

Here's hoping!

The way it stands right now, we'll burn it when ever we can. We don't schedule it on the traditional night so as not to force the decision between Yell Practice and Bonfire. That's a terrible statement as they should be one in the same, but it is what it is. This year, though, if the Court says "ok, you can burn but only on Wednesday" then that's what will happen. If they say Tues, then so be it. It's still up in the air and there's not much we can do about it.

There's a 30% chance of rain for Hearne Saturday and Sunday. I know its not much but keep your fingers cross.

Wasn't Burn on a Tuesday last year? How was the attendance?
Ellemenoquo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Attendence has increased every year, regardless that Burn was on a Tuesday last year. There was a lot of debate about it, but people made the effort and the event was a success.

I heard that the earliest that it will probably be burned is the following Saturday, but again, I think that this will be a bad scenario as well. Kids being out of town with their families and whatnot, people relaxing for the holiday.
COKEMAN

You are right, the contingency plan was to have it Saturday after the game. Reason being that people would still be in town after the game and willing to come out. That won't happen unless we get some kind of monsoon that makes the court decide to extend the window for that long. The way it stands right now, if is was to rain today and tomorrow, and then revert back to the same weather we have been having, it could be dried out again by Saturday.

Anyway, this brings up a good question that we are going to have to address in situations like this in future years for sure. As mentioned before, it's about the spirit, not the date. I know that the tradition is before the game, etc, etc. But in the choice between no Fire at all or a Fire that happens after the game, I would choose the latter. Until we are out of survival mode and Bonfire is completely self-sustaining again and the biggest thing in town, we have to take what we can get to keep it going for future generations.
