I am writing you all to ask for your prayers for my cousin and his friends on campus. Last night, (around 8-9 pm,) Keller, one of their fellow EMT/Paramedic friends was accidently and fatally shot. The full details of exactly what happened were not available as of the last time I spoke to him, but the incident occurred at Keller’s own home and another friend was present at the time. That second friend was of course being questioned last night as to the details of the incident which only added to the tragedy.
This group of about 8 guys/girls is an extremely tight-knit group. They run and work the EMS service at A&M as EMTs and Paramedics and they spend much of their spare time together hanging out as friends. In fact, they all just went to Mexico together last month on a “group vacation” before school started again. Ironically, Keller had literally JUST returned from Galveston where he had assisted with the evacuees of the storm and had phoned Aaron around 7:00 p.m. last evening to invite him to dinner with some of the others.
Doing what they do on a daily basis, I know my cousin is usually very confident and calm in the face of crisis, but I cannot begin to describe the anguish I heard in his voice last night when he called from the hospital. This personal tragedy has rocked him and his friends to the core and it will take much time, I’m sure, for healing.
Please keep these kids as well as Keller’s family in your thoughts and prayers as I know it will be very difficult for them all in the days to come.
