Ok I was reading on the thread about the Bonfire charm and they were talking about bonfire products being difficult to find and the reasoning behind it...I have some questions...

Originally from what I was told I understood that some red pots in the early '90's fought hard to get the bonfire logo licensed...they finally got it. They wanted to help their efforts in raising money for Bonfire b/c it was always the Jr redpots who were charged with that responsibility. It was their understanding the profits from any sales of bonfire iems would go to benefit the bonfire efforts...apparently then later they found out that 1/3 of the proceeds from sales of bonfire items went to corps scholarships and the rest went to the athletics...Anyone from that era care to comment?

AS to the sales of anything bonfire related...I was shocked to hear that the Coppell club was selling the charms. Most of the mother's clubs have NOTHING bonfire related. Certainly you don't see anything parents weekend...But when I saw that the charm was made by Jeep Collins, I don't believe they can control that...He must hold the licensing..

I'm certainly not of that era, but why would there be a problem where the proceeds went, even if this is true?

Personally, I can't understand the ban on selling bonfire charms. I hope more A&M moms clubs take up the cause, and do it in spite of the Bowen ban on selling them. Many people want these, since bonfire as we know it has been taken from us.

The problem stems from the fact that they worked hard to get money for bonfire...they were looking for a way to bring money for funding of bonfire...it took LOTS of their time just getting together the money (each spring) they needed to cover bonfire necessities. So naturally when it didn't go to funding of bonfire they were , let's a tad bit frustrated and disappointed. That is what I was TOLD...

Always looking for conspiracies, aren't you?
Last time I checked, bonfire was dead, and has been for several years.
So, what's the problem?
Who would you rather the money go to?
This is not an accusation, as much as me trying to figure out your agenda, because it's been obvious for a few years now, that you have a huge agenda.

BryantLane - you are confused about the time periods and point of contention.

The question is the destination of the money from sales of Aggie Bonfire merchandise when Bonfire was still around (pre-'99).

Apparently, the University made a nice profit on Bonfire merchandise, but neglected to share any of it with the student group charged with constructing Bonfire. If Bonfire was a student project that did not fall under direct University oversight, as the University claims, then why did the University get all the licensing $$$?

THANK YOU KEEGAN. Sheesh!

Where are you coming from? Listen I suggest before you start slinging mud you look at some facts. There is no "conspiracy" theory. Good heavens. I do believe there have been some MAJOR bad decision making around here but I dont' know where you get off saying I am suggesting conspiracy. Am I bad person because I actually have some thoughts of my own? That I can read and actually make decisions on my own? I certainly hope not. I went to college to learn how to become an independent thinker...

In the past I have been a strong proponent of getting the facts so one can speak with knowledge but...seems for a lot of people it is way too much trouble. A horse can be led to water but...

There are many facts to consider regarding the motives of the Pots who laboured under the dillusion that they were working to support the Bonfire and the future of the Bonfire. Like expending your efforts under false pretenses. The sum of 650,000 dollars per year is collected on logo revenues which is divided at 65% to the athletic dept. and 35% to corps scholarship funds. These facts are verifiable through the licensing office.

BryantLane I don't know where you "last checked", but Texas A&M Bonfire is not dead. Hundred of students work off campus every year without the University's support to make sure there is a bonfire and it does burn; where hundreds and hundreds of people come out before the game.

I'm trying to figure out how you didn't know this thread is 11 years old given that you're the one who bumped it.

@JB13: Cut BryantLane some slack for not following Student Bonfire when it didn't exist yet.

Wow I apologize. I was reading two threads at once and I guess the date from the other (2012) confused me. Again, I apologize. I have no clue why such an old thread pulled up. I just wanted a bonfire necklace charm which is apparently non existing now.
