We had a blast! Took the kids. Event was well run, parking and shuttle were a breeze. Congratulations AGS!

I loved it all, except for the leaving part. One bus would come like every 10 or 15 minutes. With each one holding like 50 to 60 people, and thousands of Ags in line, it made for a looong wait. We got in line at like 10 and got on a bus at like 12:30.

Other than that it was a great experience. One that I hope more and more students will choose to participate and support over the next few years.

Deats99 must have cut in line if he/she thinks the bus was a breeze....I got in line around 8:30 and did not get on a bus until 11:40--I counted 3 buses only for the return trip.
Had a great time, though.

Waiting in line for the bus sucked. But when we were up to about the halfway point in the line, the driver of the twelfth man bus came and asked me and my friends if we wanted to ride with them back to parking lot. It was awesome. I don't who owns and operates that bus, but they're getting a donation from me before I send a check to the Association. Good Bull!

that guy who owns the 12th man bus is awesome. we were looking for somewhere to play some dominoes and he let us use the table in there. he sat around and shot the **** with us for probably 45 min or so, hes a really cool guy

Sorry about the audio. I started the War Hymn without turning on the volume, it ran into the Spirit, and I did not give enough time between the Last Corps Trip and the start of the Spirit.

Burn was picturesque, the brush fires were eventful, it was good to see everyone, and I hope all got home safely.

I went to my first "Student Bonfire". The bonfire was outstanding. The crowd was outstanding.

They will have to do something about the busses. We waited from 9:30pm until about 1:00am to get on the bus back to the parking lot. We waited for about an hour just to get to the site.

Five hours worth of waiting in line to see the bonfire burn really tainted the whole experience.

Surely they can find a parking site that will allow people to walk a short distance rather than take busses.

Just watching the videos, I am looking forward to my kids being old enough to go next year. Hopefully this will be a yearly event for us.

mrad,

trying to get up to 10,000 people in and out of Site on tiny little Pin Oak road is a logistics nightmare. Even if that many people drove to somewhere close to Stack, the road would be so beaten to hell that getting out would probably be even worse. If you paid attention to how rough it was Saturday night, keep in mind that it was nearly freshly graded when i traversed it at around 2pm.

Driving slow is something that is very very stressed to crews and visitors that come to Cut and Stack, but is something that would more than likely fall apart when thousands of people are driving that road in the dark that haven't ever been down it before. I hate being the advocate of hard paving a gravel road, mainly because I like them so much, but unless the road maintains it's integrety around the corners and on the hills, parking that many people close is just simply not possible.

Past that, the cars would have to find a place to be! Student Bonfire does not own the land that Bonfire is burned on. It is by generousity of the landowner that any of the last 3 Bonfire have been possible. Not all of the neighbors think it's the greatest thing in the world, but as long as SB doesn't intrude on their personal property they can't say much about what is done on a piece of land they don't own. The closest, most suitable plot of land that was available for parking was that shuttle lot across from the church. The man takes one last cut of coastal and then the whole field gets trampled one night in November... that has the potential to be a lot of work for him to be able to keep his bale count up.

There are people that are diehard advocates of Bonfire returning to campus. There are people that unconditionally believe that a return to campus would be the end of Bonfire. Either way, the only two ways to accomodate the nearly unpredictably growing numbers are 1) to pave Pin Oak for the amount of traffic that it would have to handle for that one night each year, but not knowing how long Bonfire will be down that road makes that a pretty big gamble for Robertson County, and/or 2) move Site closer to 6, or even FM 2549 or some other paved road. At the same time a Site closer to B/CS might as well be sought. The Reds in 2006 (and I'm sure plenty of others did, too, but '06 was when I was there beside them) went through way way too many long days and nights, cigarettes, girlfriends, and tanks of gasoline trying to find the best available site to Burn. The site they found had to be cleared and leveled before Stack could start.

in short, parking and busses are not something that were just thrown together. Believe it or not, but the whole system has been greatly improved over the last couple of years, but, and I speculate it is due to the recent news from Maurano, attendance seemed to jump a little this year. It is simply a matter of trying to move too many people, too quickly down a road that wasn't made for it.

other than the bus situation it was nice. It was impressive and I can't imagine the logistics that went into the non Bonfire portion of the event. Plan on going back next year, but I might sneak an enduro bike out there to avoid the lines

You know, as I recall the "bus/parking situation" has been an issue since the beginning of Student Bonfire in 2002. Every year several people get on here and complain about it. Now I know it was a pain for everyone that had to wait. But you can either believe that SB knows there is a problem and doesn't care to do anything to fix it or you can believe that the problem is extremly complex, and has no easy solution. I think the post by TexasReb was very good in illustrating this.

Rest assured to all of you that SB knows that transportation is a problem. And I am sure if any of you has any effective and attainable solutions that they will be appreciated.

I didn't mind the wait, as I expected there would be one, but what I minded was so many d-heads cutting in line.

Just so you know 80. I had enough sense to see the fire start, enjoy, then grab the kids and scoot because I have been reading the "holy $4!t the busses sucked" threads for three years. This may really p**s you off but we left at 8:50 and waited maybe. 10 minutes.

deats--not referring to you as a d-head....believe me, I don't mind when a few people wander up and see a friend in line...I am talking about packs of about 15-20 that walk up, stand to the side of the line and then as the line moves, shoves their way in..
BTW--I headed to the busses at 8:30 and realized (when my daughter pointed it out) that all the people that we were passing were already in line, so I turned around and went to the back....maybe you didn't notice that at 8:45 and thought it was the hot dog line

We got out there at 5, got on the bus no problem and got back on right after yell practice before the trans isssue went to hell apparently. i thought somebody would get killed walking down that road with buses flying around corners and whatnot. i could have sworn our driver was drifting around corners.

BTHOB '09 and enjoy. I'll be in Iraq all next year but you bet your ass I'll be helping BTHOB '10

We didn't make it to site until after they lit the stack...this is the third year I've done bonfire, so I mainly went to see people, but I felt bad for my friend (this was the second year that she went and missed the lighting).

We got in line to head back shortly before midnight, but after standing in line for an hour, we decided to catch a ride back to the cars in our old chief's truck bed. I rode back to my car with something like 15 Nerd guys crammed in the back of Ugly's truck, and my fiance nearly broke his shinbone (someone was sitting on it). That was fun. :-)

Student Bonfire would also like to apologize to those turned away when the parking lots filled to capacity
