You're not missing anything worthwhile. It was an overly dramatic piece that basically said TAMU is about to fall off of a precipice and the only thing that can save it is Bonfire (however, not built by students).

There were better, more thought out, writings in the responses to it, than the original piece had in any shape/form.

Finally got to read it. I agree with CC on the point about the article, but haven't read comments... any decent examples?

For those who still wanna read, basic summary is that it makes the classic argument that A&M is going downhill and bringing back Bonfire will reinvigorate traditions and the spirit of Aggieland...blah blah blah.... The most pertinent section in the whole damn article (for this forum at least) is this:
quote:
The details of exactly how Bonfire could return to campus naturally could not allow any student-run group or students to be on the stack. The stacking would have to be done by professional contractors. But that is fine. Times change and, in fact, why not invite title sponsorship to the event to defer costs?

Otherwise, organizing, cutting, carrying, transporting, lighting, perhaps even fundraising or selling sponsorships would have to be wholly student-run.
I can picture it now: Aggie Bonfire brought to you by Raising Canes, burned the night before the big game at AT&T's Kyle Field. Screw corporate sponsorship, no reason to sellout like tech. Financially it works right now, in no small part b/c of the Reds hard work & old Ags slowly understanding it's not some sloppy renegade operation in robertson county. Turnout for Burn '08 is proof that SB is winning converts...
