As we all very well know, three of the Northside dorms are being demolished at the end of the year. Although I've heard rumors of this, are there currently any concerted efforts by the residents of the said halls to relocate en masse to different dorms on campus?

At Cut this weekend, I heard a rumor that Crocker would move into FHK. If so, I hope they reconsider it.

only things ive heard is that McInnis is considering moving to southside; possibly Kreuger.

I think that any one of those three moving into another dorm that currently does bonfire isnt a good idea. it will only further reduce numbers. if we spread our footprint then I think we have a better chance of coming thru this stronger. then again, im fairly sure none of the current crocker people want to be on southside.

Don't just think of it as "spreading our footprint". Think of it as spreading our recruiting pool.

After examining the 2011 dorm list, it looks like the best opportunities are:

  • Appelt
  • Eppright
  • Krueger
  • Wells

  • Not all-female.
  • No "Living Learning Communities".
  • No existing Bonfire crews.

And of those, Krueger is both the cheapest and the largest.

of the aformentioned, Krueger is the only one that is suite style. modular style dorms are even worse than commons in terms of recruiting because the bathrooms arent shared in any fashion. people tend to leave the doors closed and be even less dorm oriented than the commons style dorms. plus they tend to house more upperclassmen.

so have a floor meeting and suggest that, in order to promote a fun and neighborly community to live it, there be a requirement for doors to be kept open while the room is occupied between the hours of 8am and 5pm

Rebel,

Noble idea, but hardly practical. Locks keep the honest folk honest and the criminals deterred long enough for someone to notice.

How's about we keep this speculative so as not to tip off RHA and blow any possible cover.

You mean Reslife.

And it is speculative. I have no affiliation with the dorms being demolished.

About a week ago a couple of representatives from reslife met with the residence of McInnis Hall to tell us our moving options, one of the plans they suggested was to take our crew to another dorm. We had been planning on this anyway, so it was kinda nice to know resife was ok with this. But who knows it could be a tarp lol.

I was an RA in Eppright, we tried to get that dorm to be social and participate in A&M traditions, it was a losing battle. In fact we as RA's were told that we would risk losing our jobs if we were seen or is Reslife heard that we were present at Bonfire. I told them to shove it, turned a resignation letter effective at the end of the year, and went.

Appelt on the other hand, if it's similar to how it was when I and some of my friends lived there, is ripe for the taking. We had lots of fun in there, it would be a good place to recruit for Bonfire.

Anyhow, best of luck keeping the crews together, I'm always pullin' for the ones keeping Bonfire alive.

(P.S. we were cool RA's, there was not a single alcohol violation or conduct write-up given out all year, with one exception and that was because when we tried to give him a break like we always did with everyone else he proceeded to curse at us with many obscenities and much name calling, so then he got to talk to the police...)

Even before 1999, the slogan of the Eppright Bonfire Crew was "we watch it burn."
