So everyone, it appears Bonfire has done a pretty darn good job getting the word out, but if you have the chance, pass on the news about parking or just direct folks to the web site. A little like that goes a long way to pulling off a great event this year.

Should be a HUGE crowd on Tuesday now. Hope everyone gets there early.

AggieStudent, I understand your concern, but you need to learn a bit about the current design before you make assumptions and disparaging remarks. It is cut in tiers to look like the old wedding cake, but there is a often misconception that logs are stacked. In fact, EVERY LOG TOUCHES THE GROUND. I invite you to actually come out, see for yourself or simply browse these pages for more discussions on the design.

I have no concerns about the design. I helped create it. It was when I heard SB was going away from this design to truly stacking again that I freaked out. I was told a few years back that they thought they were ready to build a three tier wedding cake instead.

It wasn't that a three tier stack was super scary to me. Its that I could suddenly see the poor decision making chain reaction that led to 99 rear its head.

AggieStudent,

Whoever told you that SB was ready to build a three tier "stacked" stack was SEVERELY misinformed or told you that out of plain meanness. However, when lies of this severity are told, it gets to be the truth.

As a worker and member of SB, I hold my head high and don't apologize for my desire to build the fire; I hope more people adopt this attitude. SB membership are not second class Aggies. Period.

Never mind the mule being blind, just load the god dammned wagon.

Aggie Student what year are you? (Were you part of bonfire 02 and 03?) I know as a former student that has all bonfire experience based on post 1999 bonfire I still don't truly know all the events that led to Nov. 18. I do however know that we did and continue to do everything in our power to avoid some of the known mistakes. We continue to consult those older and wiser than our self. We have a design with certain fundamentals that are all but etched in stone. We have very few changes that have been made between 03 when we went vertical until now, and ALL of those changes improved safety and nothing more (Guide lines, rope crews, metal braces on Windle sticks, even welded medal Y sticks, to name a few.)

If you do get a chance to at least come out and watch burn, get there early enough to talk to some of the leadership.

So are we burning tomorrow or not? I saw the post about the Burn Ban. Need to know quick!!! My family and I are planning a trip out. Would hate to make the trip and have to turn around and come back without the Fire.

I posted this last year, but it's worth reposting:

quote:
TexAgs special:

Take 6 to Sadberry Road, then turn Left on Old Hearne Road, and take that to site.

It'll put you coming in the opposite direction of everyone else, who will likely be taking OSR -> Old Hearne.

Debate SB elsewhere, let's keep this thread informative.

those directions from nav work great. Nice to fly past everyone and have the right of way turning into the parking lot.
