Does anyone know if the footage of the construction of Bonfire 1999 that was used in the Modern Marvels episode...if that is real footage of what was actually happening when stack fell?

If it is real footage of what was taking place when stack fell, who was filming it?

It's mostly from a '98 kbtx broadcast.

Because they show and mark it as Bonfire 1999 construction, and when they show some logs being hoisted to one of the stacks, some workers look up in shock and then it shows the students running to get help...was that real footage of Bonfire '99?

If they labeled it as such, then it probably is '99. The history channel does a pretty good job.

The segments I was looking at were '98, but it seems they inter-spliced it with the limited '99 material from public domain. For instance, I think the scene of people looking up in shock is actually people normally swamping a log to stack and reacting to calls and running out of perimeter, followed by an altered image of the stack that gives the impression its collapsing, but then they cut to actual footage from immediate post collapse.

Most of that footage is available from the university archives if you know who to talk to, some of it is not viewable by the public (crime scene evidence) or is proprietary of kbtx. There is no video of the stack collapsing, never has been.

I put the video up on youtube, if it's what you're referring to.

The footage I'm referring to is...on the video "Aggie Bonfire on Modern Marvels" and the footage I'm referring to starts at 5:11-6:06

Do you know where there is Aggie Bonfire 1999 footage, either on the internet, or do you know someone that has footage of it?

What do you mean by footage?

Pre or post collapse?

By footage I mean video of the '99 stack either before or after the collapse

If it's not on youtube, then it probably doesn't exist online, there wasn't much in the way of digital recording in '99, and most of the material never needed to be digitized while they still had VCRs. Best bet is private collections or source material for the 1999 Bonfire Commission Report.

In the modern marvels video, I believe the only real '99 video footage is from 5:11-19, and again from 5:35-6:06, like you said. Plus a couple of filler scenes later on.

The footage from before the collapse on MM looked to just be stock footage from some Bonfire of student workers. Possibly not even of Bonfire '99. the footage of the collapse was just stock footage they turned on edge to simulate it falling.

the footage after the collapse of people swamping logs away from the collapse and ambulances was all actual footage from that night.
