Dumpster, don't be a hypocrite. If you're trying to suggest that that sort of thing didn't happen in the 90's, I'm not sure which "real bonfire" you were going to. I think we can all agree that the actions of these kids were risky, irresponsible, and not to be taken lightly, but to use this situation as a condemnation of Student Bonfire is more than a little unfair. As long as I've been associated with it, Student Bonfire has always worked very closely with county officials and operated within the full extent of the law. And like it or not, it is "real" Bonfire and a hell of a lot more "real" than anything will ever be on campus again.

I hope to see these kids make a full recovery and to see the organization learn from this unfortunate event to continute to perpetuate the spirit of Aggie Bonfire.

This is why Student Bonfire will never(especially now, thanks northside) get creditability from TAMU. They went to 1)university property, 2)WENT TO UNIVERSITY PROPERTY, 3)WENT TO UNIVERSITY PROPERTY...get it? yea this just proved to the public that Bonfire is a vehicle for...ready for it?....Frat behavior...dun dun dun....Student Bonfire good luck recovering. Other than being mentioned, Student Bonfire has no actual connection to this incident. To place blame on the organization would simply be McCarthyism.

Just because it wasn't posted on the website or advertised, doesn't mean it didn't have anything to do with bonfire. Besides...all that matters is the perception of the incident anyways.

Yep, some good points here. And yep, this was incredibly dumb and put an entire organization at risk. Those involved have been kicked out of SB and the remaining crews have been reminded, again, that this type of behavior is not tolerated.

Some will believe this, some won't, but SB has been trying to affect a culture change to eliminate behavior such as this. Every year members of leadership make a point that this is not tolerated and members have been removed in the past for similar actions.

Still, it is true that the perception is key and this will be another challenge to face regardless of what SB's actual involvement is. Current leadership is still discussing what other actions can and should be taken relating to the current situation as well as future prevention.

Chuckles, I'm not sure what about my post makes me dumb. We said essentially the same thing except you threw out hot-button issues like blaming Northside (ironic considering the future of your dorm) and using hot-button terms like "Frat behavior".

What they did was not an official activity and was no sanctioned by the organization.

I'm sure that Student Bonfire is well aware of the consequences of what those eight students did, and I'm sure it's taken care of. I'm also sure the organization is aware of the damage done because of what the students chose to do and are attempting damage control.
