What are some opinions on dorm leadership other than the traditional (new army) style.
The most common one these days is very crew chief-centric, however what is the viability of different forms, such as different positions fulfilling different capacities (hall council helps with dorm unity, policy descisions within bonfire influenced by positions other than crew chiefs, etc).

Ya it's just tradition.

Hall council can't touch bonfire because they're an official A&M entity.

Technically they can't, but I always thought it was funny the way SBK started up a few years ago. We had our first hall council meeting of the semester (the only one residents actually go to), did the whole meeting thing, and then the then-chief was like "OKAY THE TEXAS A&M SBK RESIDENCE HALL COUNCIL MEETING IS OFFICIALLY OVER. If you would like to join student bonfire with us please stay for a few more minutes as that meeting begins now" Got quite a handful of members doing that

Wish I could say the same thing for Clements Hall. I did, however, try advertizing using the Suspiciously Specific Denial approach. ("This Saturday evening at Hot Rot Hill...nothing is happening. We're certainly not burning the hell outta any rebel Bonfires."

And more subtly, by wearing my grodes to the meetings.

Exceptional bull. I got into being on Nerd Crew by denial of any questions, then talking to the chiefs who happened to pop up and talk to a couple of us a few hours later.

Good for you! And Lechner. Glad y'all got a crew started again.

BTW, in case you haven't already figured it out, I'm Old Man Dan.

FWIW, back in 2000 the university had proposed to make Bonfire leadership elected instead of pass-down. Of course, this became a moot point in 2002.

elected was the worst idea possible...

the best was "assigned by a static committee". Basically, a committee that stays with the project from year to year, that simply oversees what the students that rotate through do... kind of like Med school.

Elected pots would be like student council at an elementary school.
