Just got this email from the Brazos Valley A&M Club:

quote:
As a result of the discussions, the Brazos County A&M Club has decided that beginning in 2012, we will hold our own Aggie Muster organized by the volunteers of the Club and will be a separate event from the Student Muster, organized by current students in Texas A&M Student Government’s Aggie Muster Committee.

The Brazos County A&M Club Muster’s Roll Call for the Absent will honor:

Former students who lived in Brazos County
Additional former students as selected the night of roll call

The Student Muster’s Roll Call for the Absent at Reed Arena will honor:

Students currently enrolled at Texas A&M University

Members of the 50-Year Reunion Class

Former students who have an immediate family member* that is currently enrolled at Texas A&M University

Former students who lost their lives while deployed serving on active military duty within the past year

Texas A&M University faculty and staff of long tenure

*An immediate family member is defined as grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, sister, brother, son and daughter.

I'm all for the Brazos Club leaving to free up room in Reed, but I'm not sure about changing the list. Then again, with higher enrollment years, they will have to shorten the list eventually. With Bonfire being gone, It's sad to see another Aggie traditions get downsized.

Once you are out of school and attend a Muster with a local A&M Club you will see that it doesn't lose any of its meaning or significance with a smaller group.

Previously, there were limitations of who could be honored at the on campus Muster. When my wife passed away several years ago, we did not live in Brazos County. She had re-enrolled in A&M the previous year but had to withdraw due to her diagnosis and treatments so she did not meet the criteria for being in listed in the on campus Muster. However, since my parents and multiple people in both our families had attended, an exception was made and her name was included on the Muster list.

I think the logistics were to the point where they had reached the limit on how many people could be on the floor for the ceremony.

The major difference is by adding a Brazos County Muster, more people can be honored locally instead of less.
