It was amusing to hear pockets of Ags in the crowd laugh at the "left handed skyhooks" mention.

Awesome speech. The whole ceremony was truly moving. I wish I had been around to experience everything that is and was Bonfire. As a young Aggie, I was wondering if someone could share what "left handed skyhooks" are. It seemed like a pretty esoteric reference. Thanks...

Left handed sky hooks are kinda difficult to explain. But they are typically used in conjunction with tree straighteners and left handed ropes.

I hope this clears it up for you.

It's best not to use a left handed skyhook with an angular tree leaning indicator or else everything will be messed up.

I'll never forget the time we sent one of the fish off to look for a #3 left handed tree topper.

And about 3 hours later he showed up at load site with part of a circular saw tied to a branch with a big "3" carved in it. Some brownpot was bored that day.

Oh, and I forgot the tree-stretcher. You know, for all those stubby trees you cut dorms keep sending to LOAD site.

One of my brothers was a climber who was running the axe station for the Corps. When no one was givin him work to do we used to rummage through the junk in the trailer and make up gadgets. Then, whenever some dumb fish would come looking for a {enter random non-existent but extremely necessary tool} we would have something to give them.

Well, yeah. I thought that was understood.

First cut my fish year I got sent after a sky hook. Along the way I ran into a red pot that I knew from before college. When I proudly informed him of my task he told me the joke and sent me back to the woods with instructions that "they were out" and that I shouldn't spoil the joke for everyone else.

jobu93 you can use a left handed skyhook as long as you use the analog tree lean indicator, that's the only way it will work

tree stump deatomizers can be awfully fun...

For anyone curious, the new digital treescope is a real timesaver. The battery life sucks, though.

I got sent to look for a tree stump deatomizer as a fish.

digitals are no good out there, they may be easier to use but the analogs are much more reliable and you dont have to worry about batteries in the middle of the woods

I had to bump this thread... any of you new army boys still send fish after these tools?

Usually Hotard is always in the back of crocker woods, but thats gonna be hard to point towards this fall.
