I've read stuff for weeks about Dunn, Walton, Moses, etc. Does Aston still have a crew/get involved/do anything?

I live off campus now but after the events of this past week I want to get involved with student bonfire next year. The people I've talked to said that most people go with their old dorm is they are now off campus.

So does anyone know anything about who to contact with Aston?

Aston had a few participants (and their own dorm log), but not enough to be a recognized crew.

There were two Aston guys who were there just about every day (Josh and Southpaw), they kicked ass. There were several others at different times. I would say there were about 6 at burn, enough to make their presence felt.

Im in aston and when the student bonfire guys came by with info earleir thsi year, there was an immediate respone from the RAs and director condemning the off campus bonfire. we had a few go, but not many.

i was at the burn but sadly didnt make it to any cuts or stack this year. you can bet your ass ill be there next year though, with or without aston.

I'd encourage you to stay in the dorm another year. Get to know the fish and motivate them to get involved.

This may sound like a weak excuse, but as far as unity and whatnot goes, im not digging it at all here. no one does anything as a hall in aston. we couldnt even get 7 guys to play flag football. i mean im in other organizations and i understand people have prior engagements, im one of them, but at the beginning of the year there was time. also the fact that many of the ra's are nazis on fun and beer, stuff like that, it makes things pretty uninteresting.

i go to football games and see moses and lechner at the games as a hall and its like damn, where is aston? ive even been to hart's party off campus for their fish. we dont have anything remotely close to that round here.

I'm in Clements, and we're in pretty much the same situation. (We had 6 Bonfire participants this year.) Except that we do go to football games together.

Yeah Aston had horrible unity last year too. Maybe old timer astonites should throw parties for new ones. I was third floor last year and know all about the beer nazis. I know I know you shouldn't have alcohol in the rooms but man... really. I got warned over thanksgiving break because were playing putt-putt in the hallway. NOBODY ELSE WAS THERE!!! Who was this disturbing???? Everyone that was there on the fourth floor was playing.

Anyway so as an offcampus former-astonite if they don't have a recognized crew who would I join? And how many does it take for a recognized crew?

I know we could get a few guys together. There are at least 3 i know of who wanted to participate this year as a hall but due to lack of involvement, we just did our own thing. If you want to try to get something together for next year, i can get you my e-mail address.

I'd be game. Me and some friends have our own group we call the AMH that came from Aston last year there are about 8 of us and they would all do it too. They live in Eppright now but we're going to live together next fall.

So was Aston EVER involved with bonfire? I'd be interested to learn the yells or different stories if anyone has em.

We had Aston-AMH teams last year for indoor soccer but thats because a friend of mine started them.

Yes, Aston used to be involved with Bonfire, but it pretty much stopped in 99. I would be happy to pass along any info you want.

OC welcomes everyone without a woods to call their own. Once we had about a dozen we got our own woods. I think Aston could do that, it would be redass to be the first southside dorm to get your own woods. Though I would miss working with them.

Sounds like we have a goal.

The Aston deads were given our own woods this year at first cut, but mainly because the in-charge types didn't really want us interacting with the youngins from Hotard that some of us were with at the start of the day...

Good luck guys, I cut with Aston from 89 to 93 and we always had a good showing. Of course with 480+ guys in the dorm, it was not too hard to find 30 or so to show up.

The key for you guys is to start working on getting some guys out NOW, not next fall when everything starts happening again and it's too late to organize.

Also, don't let any RAs, RHA, or anyone in perceived "authority" tell you what you can and cannot do. Maybe you can't run the halls or put "Aston" (or C1 NRB) on your pots, but they do not have a monopoly on where a bunch of friends sit down to talk about their weekend plans, what they do once they leave campus, or the letter "A."

"Aston" isn't trademarked. You should be able to put it on your pot.

and yeah, putting aston on our pots is no biggie. they can't do anything about it and they will never know, seeing as no one in authority is allowed there.

Although I agree with all of you about the RA's not being able to keep residents from attending Student Bonfire, I wouldn't push them too far. I have heard to many stories of guys getting kicked out of Northside dorms for the littlest things just b/c they were pro-bonfire. Do your thing and let the RA's think they still have control. You just have to find the path of least resistance.

the RA in my wing is actually a badass. he is cool with just about anything. its just all the other tools are by the book nazis. so that makes things crappy at times.

Dammit Aston I will be po'ed if Dunn gets woods before you. Don't let those little pukes beat you. Y'all better get a crew and be the first ones out in the woods next year!
