Plus I was always on the stump end of the logs we were f-ing out. So that puts me in at least the upper half of height. Okay, not quite as tall as Drew, but taller than Beanie and Lew. Wait a second, I guess that's not saying much!

Yeah but you could never reach because of Southpaw.

Nobody could reach because of Southpaw!!!! He could just take the whole damn log by himself!

Even if no one could reach cause of Southpaw, you're still short.

Disney, don't be mad that you are slighly vertically challenged. All it means is that you were destined to call logs instead of swamping them.

Then it's a good thing I have a big mouth. Plus I get away with wearing really high heels when the occasion calls for it - not that any of you have ever seen me clean before.

OK. I'm done waiting. I am about ready to take my axe to a tree in my new apartment complex. I have been checking this board and the website for a while wondering when the next opportunity to f* some trees out of the woods, but there is nothing. Is there any word on when the rest of the trees are going to be felled or the stumps dropped?

(start rant) I have been sitting in this office for a month now and would be happy to drive the three hours just to feel the ground when one of those suckers busts through it's back wedge (end rant).

In short, I can't wait another 8 months to go kill some trees.

I was at Home Depot the other day and walked by the axes. Had to go over and grab one. I need to get a new handle for mine but I think instead I am gonna get myself a new double bit one. Loved the way Drew's felt swinging it while killing trees.

Wrong. I didn't get in any creeks last semester. Just a few mud puddles.

I bought a baby axe ( 28" ) the other day and an extra handle for the girls who will be out there. And I got a couple of machetes, a hatchet, and some extra 36" handles.

Good thing I'll be back in CS in a few days.

Opie - the browns are gonna start working on that once the baby browns get back in town.

BE - your women should use a big ax too. (Okay, I know some crocker boys are going to chime in... but that fiskars is sharp. It's it's one redeeming quality.) I did till Neeley lost it.

I don't care about axes anymore anyhow, now i'm into these

I use a full 36". But I could tell the weight in just the double bit and single bit axes were a factor for me. I prefer the singles. And anyway, I know that if it was a ***** for me, there will be some girls who would prefer the smaller ones. It is not a fiskars axe. It is a real axe.

Burger may care more about chain saws now but I will still give you hell for the baby axe. You can always count on me for that.

The Fiskars definitely stay sharper. But they would not be sharper if people would keep their axes sharp.

Three years ago, one of my guys brought out a Fiskars. The thing could cut like a hot knife through butter, but any latteral movement and the head would snap off. Luckily they are guaranteed for life. We went through 4 lives that year. The handle also wasn't any good for solid extension or when it snapped off.

the only thing about the fiskars that I dont like is how light they are, sure they are sharp and keep a great edge, but if they were a couple of pounds heavier then you would have something worth using. Even if it was still too small.
opie03

The sharpness of the things overcomes the need for weight. The only reason that they wear me out is from over-extending my reach and trying to "pull" the axe around instead of letting it swing naturally.

Shoot, I am talking about Axe ettiquite like a golf swing. I really need to get back in the woods.

i've always preferred the good ole solid wood handle double bit personally...but i must side with burger on this one....i'm biased to saws now...they're just so much easier

I like the single bit better. I am weak, but wood is a must. Those stupid fiberglass pieces of crap (fiskars excluded) will break your hands.

I like my single bit wood but after using Drew's double bit. I gotta get me one now!

You can't just say weight doesn't matter as long as your bit is sharp. Sure, the sharper the better, but the more weight the better too. It just depends on the individuals strength as to how much weight you should use.

A person who benches 70 will chip more than a person who benches 250 if they have a better swing. It has less to do with strength and more to do with technique and the sharpness of the blade. [/lecture]

I know, I know. So what's my excuse?
Smittyfubar
How long do you want to ignore this user?

If I were to swing a 5 pound axe and a 10 pound axe of the same sharpness, the 10 pound axe is gonna do a lot more damage. Sharpness is important but weight IS definatly a factor.

It's all about the form. A light dull axe that is swung well and aimed perfectly will chip twice as fast as a heavy sharp one swung incorrectly.

Then again there was the Saturday with John from Heart and that cross-cut saw. We killed at least 18 trees that day.

God I need to get back in the woods...
