Redpot log 96?

I think that was the year. My years are all running together. The one that go chopped in half at cut site before making it out to the field.

For those that were involved, what was the real story? What I had heard was that a group of Q's had chopped it in retaliation for the reds the year before leading elephant walk across the band field. Is that what really happened?

I can only confirm that it was '96, and it was the BQ's that did it. I never really knew why they did it, nor do I care. At the time, I just wanted some revenge, or "hickory justice", if you will, in return for my treatment.

The night of the fire, keeping the band out of perimeter, made up for it. However, I don't remember if it was all of the band, or just the seniors, but I remember that we kept someone from the band out of perimeter.

I wish I had been around for that kind of stuff, most people now wouldn't know who redpots are and to stay off the band field.

I've never seen anyone walk on the band field.

If I'm remembering right, the Q's weren't allowed to make the outhouse the next year for cutting the log.

Yep, from then on Parson's MC had the outhouse.

That year, the band showed up with an outhouse only for the red's to tell them to "get the **** off their field".

Also, I do not believe that the band was allowed to march around the stack. They stuck back near the stage and played.

I can't remember what spurred it. I think it was some imagined slight that Cleave (BQ butt pot at the time) thought happened and he decided to take offense. The situation was blamed on the non-reg's because the red's thought only the non-reg's would have the audacity to cut the RP log.

To the reds credits, it was the yellow's tradition and responsibility to **** with the red pot log.

Yup, one of my regrets from my year as YP (91) was that we didn't go through with burying the RP log. We had a nice deep hole dug and then some browns showed up and convinced some of my brethern to not do it. It's all or none, so just a couple not wanting to do it shut that down. Too bad, would have been a great YPFU.

Sure, we went out to cut site one night, dropped some trees on the tractor paths with chainsaws, rode around on the forklift, caused a little mayhem and loaded up redpot log onto a trailor with the intention of going to Galveston and leaving it on the seawall. Only got a couple of miles away from cut site before realizing that the log was too big / heavy for the little, crappy trailor we had. We would never have made it all the way without breaking something, so we took it back. Fun night - I have some good pics, too.

Well, someone DID flip a Yukon on it while trying to mud...

One of the Drum Majors (Alex Jones 2003) got his Jaw and cheek broken for someone walking across.

Fox-2 decided it would be funny to try to do their humpit on the drill field after March to the Brazos, while the entire band was assembled in formation. (Oh the ass-whooping we put on them, thoguh it was like 5-1 in our favor)

that was some pretty sweet **** going on back in the day - good times

were any of you all around in 93 when a group of regular type people and some crew chiefs mostly from Dunn and Aston, (myself included) decided it would be fun to kidnap as many yellowpots as we could? it was late at night and i think we had the yellow from dunn call the others one at a time and tell them he needed to meet up with them about something, the rest of the crowd would hide and when the unsuspecting YP showed up, we'd tackle them and tie em up - i think we caught 7 or 8 and then could not really decide what to do with them, so we put panties on each of their heads (why not) and dumped them into fish pond.

Good ****, Oveta. I remember that, I was a freshman and we heard about it through Taco (our resident Yellow) the next day.

Didn't realize you were in on it.

Yes he did. He was ballistic in the classic Taco way. Waving his arms and yelling "Where's the respect" and then admitting that it was a pretty good prank.

We all had a good laugh and a couple beers and proceeded to play 42 into the night.

Never heard about that! Did the captured YPs ever figure out it was the Dunn YP that ratted them out? If so, I'm sure there was some sort of retribution.

My Chief year ('95), several chiefs from Dunn, Aston, Appelt, HHH and I (and probably others) went out to the field late at night before stack started. We tried to capture and tie up the one Red out there (Jeremy, aka Truck). He was FREAKIN' HUGE and it didn't work. We did, however, spray paint some logs blue. We got our asses chewed pretty good for that, and had to spend the better part of the next day out there with machetes scraping the paint off of the logs. I remember Carl Baggett (Head Stack) "officially" chewing our asses a few days later, only to say unofficially that he thought it was funnier than hell and good CC bonding.

Hey YP96, you going to be in the Kyle area tomorrow?

nope - I'm in Houston. We're trying to find a good weekend to come up for a baseball game, though. Remind me, your initials are AP, right? You changed screennames a while back I think.

Yep, I only asked cause ** is having a birthday party tomorrow. The big 30.

A lot of old friends are going to be there and I wanted to see if you got the invite.

I could give you the directions if you need them.

the blue spray paint reminds me. My year, George and Walt stole a bottle of blue chalk line chalk from my toolbox and took it to stack with them that night. Then they put Sigma Nu or some other frat letters on stack with that chalk. Talk about a butt chewing. The juniors on duty at that time got it good. They never knew who did it (until now, I guess) so they had to scrape it off. Chalk don't scrape too easy, ya know.

Damn, I wish I knew about that sooner (or at all). I don't even know how to get in touch with him. Last I knew, he was in Phoenix. I'm sure it was a hoot.

Yeah, was a good time, but only a few old bonfire guys. We'll can still tell great stories, though we have to keep it down sometimes so the wives don't hear the incriminating stuff.

Check information in the Kyle area for his number. He said your email doesn't work anymore, otherwise he would have tried to get you there.

Coker, if I recall correctly, George and Walt drew a big PE on stack for "Public Enemy." I think they just followed the JRP walking perimeter and wrote it behind his back. Was funny as hell. Was also funny to see the JRPs enlist the aid of a bunch of fish and some long push brooms and kerosene I think to scrub the chalk off. Hehehe, man I miss those days.

Hilarious trip down memory lane.

I'm pretty sure the BQs took the blame from the beginning for cutting the log in half.

I remember when the Browns stole the Yellow Pot log and mounted on the roof of the Brown Pot porch. That didn't exactly go over too well.
