Y'know, sometimes I wonder how I function. Stupid? Why yes, yes I am.

Tag line is when the rope is attached to a truck right?

In '99 and prior years, trucks were used to pull tag-lines. In '03 and '04, people were used to pull tag-lines. Either the Grey pots never thought of using trucks or they thought that there were too many people standing around and put them to work on the tag line. It works great both ways.

On an opinionated note, I would suggest Bonfire use people on Bonfire. If the rope snags atop stack, a group of people is less likely to put stress on the structure of Bonfire than a truck. Just my $.02.

I've already had this discussion with Disney, but IMO, what you guys are calling a tagline is really just a helper rope for the larger logs. Taglines are for moving items up stack to the higher tiers. Did you see the outhouse go up last year? That was about as close to the tagline of old as you will get. The "helper" rope will most likely evolve into new army tagline. The current architecture doesn't lend itself to the old way (no need for it).

The outhouse going up in 2004 was much easier than in 2003.

I (respectfully) disagree with the statemetnt about 2004 being easier.. We didnt have to hoist anything up by hand in 2003... it went smooth.. (I did have too many people giving directions though). 2004 outhouse did not require equipment but it was by no means easy to put up.

The four of us got it up there easy enough. I didn't see it go up in '03 though.

For any of you who care and can't see the StudentBonfire.com forums, the Bonfire book is coming along nicely. There are 5 chapters (Woods Tools, Trees and Felling them, Moving Logs on the Ground, Chainsaws/Equipment/Transport, and LOAD/Unload) and it is about 40 pages long. There is quite a bit more to add (Stack, Timelines, Money, Old Ag Stories, Best-Practices, First Aid, etc.), but it is coming along nicely. If you would still like to add something, feel free to start writing. I have gotten a lot of help on this so far...

opie, tomorrow or Thurs I'll post what I have on the Y-sticks here. I have already ran it by all the old OCA YPs that I have contact with (8 including me) as well as some of the older Hogs that were around for a VEEERY long time. I want to post it here as well so that other old pots or anyone else (even if they aren't Hogs, I guess we won't hold that against them) can look it over and verify what I have.

So you old guys, dust off your memory and look over what I post so we can make sure it's as accurate as possible.

Just a brief note on what I am currently leaving out:
*The process WITHOUT sticks (the JGP overseeing the log should make the call on using sticks or not)
*Integration of the "new" helper rope with the sticks
*The new pipe dream anchorman.
*The IDEF process model J/K, you can't tell I work for a process re-engineering company, can you?

That's what I go so far. Once some other old guys go over it and point out anything I missed and any of the new guys look it over and decide if they want to use it, it can be fleshed out even more. Other steps that need to be added:

*In the old days, the helper rope was just held by one or two guys on stack and pulled as needed because they could see what was going on. Currently, the helper rope is pulled by a crew on the other side of stack, so you will need to insert steps for syncing with a scarecrow and the rope crew.

*I left out the new anchorman in use. I believe that on anything bigger than a coffe can, you're living in a dream world if you think that guy is holding that log in place. And yes, I saw the size of some of your anchors.

*The steps without the sticks are similar except the sticks don't come into play. The 1-2 half way, 1-2 half way, etc until close enough for 3-4 all the way still holds.

Thanks!

I don't know if the Greys want all this stuff on the Texags Bonfire board, so I have copy-pasted it to the Bonfire Book, to be format edited later.

You can delete it if you would like, or wait for a bit of commentary on it in the next few days. I have edited my prior postings that had Bonfire book material in them because the Greys wanted me to. It's up to you.

Give a few days to see if any old guys have any comments, then take it down. I couldn't post to the SB forum because I don't have access.
