I have heard many opinions either way about girls at bonfire, namely once it comes to stack, even more specific, when it's time to throw a log onto stack, i wanted to see what ya'll thought

They were involved in the old one in those capacities, and I didn't see anything in the Bonfire Commission report citing gender-related deficiencies, so I don't see any reason to discontinue the practice.

as long as the crew is sufficient to raise the log safely, I don't think anyone cares whether it's men or women.

At Load in '99, there was this girl (and I use the term loosley) from DG that could whip any guy out there, and proved it in the grode pit.

Fast forward to '04. Those girls out there deserve to be there as much as any guy. Sure, some of them aren't the strongest or have the best form with an axe, but I can say the same for some of the FHK guys out there too.

Bonfire was never about "who can do it." It is about "getting it done."

I see no problem with them as long as they can do the work. There were several out there last year that pulled more weight than lots of the guys I saw.

One thing though, girls and this is not a slight: You have to accept the fact that on average you are weaker than the guys. If a large log is to be moved and whoever in charge asks that room be made for the bigger guys to get in there and lift, DON'T GET OFFENDED! Now if the leader says, "all the girls get off the log" then ***** at them, but if it is just a request for the smaller PEOPLE to get off the log, suck it up and make room. At least twice last year when I recommended getting bigger meat on a log I had to hear a ration of s--- from some of the girls standing around about biases toward women and Bonfire. It's not about that, it's about being able to physically pick up the log, no more, no less. You (both genders) can still help if you get kicked off a log by clearing obstacles out of the way, picking up pots that fall off heads, etc.

Before I became old and decreped, I was on a good amount of the logs that were slammed (in 03) at stack and pulled my weight beside the guys.

It burns my butt when people think that girls can't do it... because we can. And why the heck shouldn't we? Hell, in 03, Neeley earned a perimeter pole because we busted butt at cut and we busted it at stack, too.

However, small people... MALE or female are dangerous if they aren't strong and don't need to be slamming logs. But if you can pull your weight, it shouldn't matter. Penls or no penls.

Coker - I was busy doing Greenpot stuff, but I heard a fair share of it from the girls... what I understand is that panties got in a wad when it was consistently asking girls to get off the log... including the Magdelenas, Amandas, Jessies, and girls like myself... not specifying the smaller girls getting off for stronger meat.

Her name was Alicia. Commonly referred to as Linebacker. And she did kick my ass on more than one occassion.

With regards to girls being a liability, a bunch of girls from Hobby broke one of my buddy's legs. He was slamming a log onto stack with a log filled with almost all Hobby girls. As the log begins to go up. As a precaution, he got some rope monkeys on the log in case the girls needed a little help. As they were slamming on it, the log began to waver. Instead of pushing harder, the girls all ran away and left my buddy looking at a log falling down on him. He caught it with his shoulder. Then he rolled the log off of his shouilder to thr ground where it landed on his leg causing one of the nastiest breaks I've ever seen.

He honestly had enough enough meat, just the girls pussed out on him and left him to carry the load (literally).

The next year one of our boys was calling a logout at stack and a bunch of Hobby girls got in position to carry the log. He calmly informed them that they were no longer allowed to **** any logs with anyone from our dorm at stack ever again.

Back in '92 I broke my arm catching a log out at load because Croker rainbowed it at us. My end came down first and I covered it with my arms, as I was supposed to do. The other end came down and popped my end back up. It popped too high for me to keep my arms on it. One arm got caught underneath as it slammed back down. I looked down and saw the back of my hand laying up against my forearm. Nasty. It took four "I'm in a binds!!!!!" before anyone bothered to climb up and help me. B-tards.

Guys can screw up, too.

I think competence is more important than strength. There probably just needs to be better training about what to do in different situations. Did anyone tell these ladies what to do if the log started coming back? Were there "Y" sticks helping out?

The only reason I bring this up is because I really respect how much more inclusive this Bonfire is compared to ours. Keep it up. It can only mean good things for the future of Bonfire.

I guess that I am just a tad old and restricted in my thinking. I would just as soon see only the guys on Stack. And only juniors and up. It looks glamorous, but I am not sure that freshmen belong anywhere near the actual stack. Cut and haul the first two years, learn safety and judgement.
