Having it the weekend before the game really makes it tough for family to come out. I know TONS of people who want to go but can't make the trip twice.

We will have 80,000 plus people for the t.u. game and better than 40,000 will be alumni who are probably in town Thursday night. Almost gauranteed to have 20,000 + out to see burn. At this point, is there any real reason not to???

Has this been talked about for this year? I understand in the past conflicts with university stuff . . .

As long as whatever yell practice is being held "officially" doesn't conflict. Could be a good thing, more ol' ags who throw there support. But the 2%ers (more like 82%ers now) won't show. Burn can make believers out of current students.

In 2001 and 2003, the official yell practice was on Thursday evening, and I suppose that will be the case again this year. But perhaps Wednesday is a possibility.

As for now, it appears that it has been decided that Burn will be on Saturday, November 19.

Doing it on Saturday does a few things for Student Bonfire. The following are a few reasons why the 19th is a good day to burn:
1. It ensures that the entire student body will still be at aTm. More people = more $$ = bigger and better fire next year.

2. It is a weekend that normally isn't occupied by a large student event. Every one is focused on aTm and t.u., and what better to celebrate that than a Bonfire.

3. School work is pretty light that timeand students don't have to worry about studying for finals on the weeekends yet.

4. The Grey Pots said so.

5. The clean up on the day after takes a long time. There is so much trash, damage, and business to do on the day after burn that makes a Wed. or Thurs. extremely difficult. It is easy to get people out on Sunday to clean up. It is a lot harder to have them get up after post-game partys (or have them delay their trip to Grandma's) to clean stuff up.

I won't get into the all-nighters that the business people have had on the night of burn. It takes Thanksgiving week to get over some of that stuff.

6. Old rich Ags who want to come to Bonfire on Saturday and back to College Station for the game will do so if they want. Most own their businesses and can do as they wish.

It's never easy. Easier, perhaps.

I don't know what the guys thought of when deciding the date, but if you have an idea like this, why don't you go and talk to them specifically instead of on a message board? E-mail info@studentbonfire.com and the information will get to the appropriate source. That solves problems. Posting on here doesn't really.

So . .. apparently the t.u. game is at 11:00 am. If that is the case, most people will be here the night before the game, a perfect time to have bonfire. Also, the university won't schedule anything on thanksgiving day so there won't be conflicts.

This is Bonfire, we shouldnt be thinking easy and convenient.

Who cares what you have to miss in order to be there. We didnt worry about stuff like this for 90 years before 1999, and now we are going to start worrying about what Bonfire conflicts with?? (The only thing it shouldnt split time with is the "official" yell held on campus. Everything else is fair game.)

Remember this. You are only a student once. You only get one shot at doing all of this right. When it is over, it is over. You will have plenty of Thanksgivings in the future, so get out to Bonfire for this one.

I hate to have to say this but Bonfire today is a business. We have to look at the ability of people to come and pay to see what was free before. If there are conflicting events, the number of people at Bonfire most likely will fall.. We have a bigger base of support than in years past but we still dont have the people needed to be able to directly conflict with a university sanctioned event (such as yell practice before the tu game.)

slim-jim nailed it.

Yes, we have to worry. It's a matter of $$$.

Ditto Jim, Keegan. IF you want it to be moved to the traditional date, donate. Tell your friends to donate. The less SB has to be concerned about raising $$$ and profitability, the less $$$ will be an issue.

And, don't take this wrong - the money aspect.

It's our goal to move to where we don't have to be concerned about staying afloat because of ticket sales. Right now, that's the source of income that we have and we have to have said income to BTHOB.

It's not that we are scared to take on challenges of scheduling like what is being implied here... It's that we have to make smart, calculated decisions.

If you are really THAT concerned about it, please take it to a Greypot. Otherwise, this is just complaining. I'm sure that your thoughts would be heard and would be taken into consideration.

Here's an idea... let's be positive for once!
