Take the protest to the Commisioner's residences. Democracy in action. As they are your elected representatives, they at least owe it to you to show up to vote. There is no excuse for that.

Lets just prepay the fine!

Based on what I was told at the courthouse this afternoon, ff the commissioners don't meet - and this was not an official meeting - then the injunction DOES NOT stand. The judge's order was contingent on the commissioners meeting.

Burning is still illegal, but it becomes a $500 fine and no arrest, and no one will extinguish the fire after it is lit.

is the only reprocussion for burning it a fine?

From what I was told this afternoon, since the commissioners did not meet, then yes, the only penalty is the fine.

AS much as I am all for thumbing noses at authority and stickin' it to the man and such, to burn it in defiance of the burn ban and the injunction would just show everyone that Bonfire should not be allowed to be built again. This will only make it HARDER to even get land to build opn next year. Remember, that is going to be an issue now that HRH is closing.

Everything this organization does has to be above board and legal. There may still be hope, but an illegal burning gets rid of any chance, bot hthis year and in the future, that Bonfire will ever burn again (legally).

I would suggest that all supporters of Bonfire who live in the area register to vote in Brazos county, though. These guys do not fear the wrath of the students becuase most are not their constituents anyway.

I had a lengthy discussion with Judge Sims afterward. He burn bans stands, as does the injunction.

Sims expect the students to burn the fire anyway and take their fine.

Now, if the students can convince Judge Langley to lift his injunction or hold an emergency hearing . . .

Before we chastise the Commissioners Court, let's get all the facts. I'm not sure who, if any, are really in favor of Bonfire not being lit. Sounds like they were working with the students back when. I wish they had carved out an obvious exception (though not TOO obvious, if ya know what I mean). The original ban was issued in September for 90 days (through Dec 6th). Some Former Student attorneys need to step up and offer a hand with this next year, along with several other issues.
