I'm shocked that there is any thought to use a handle in the woods. We would have kicked out that person during cut.

I personally don't see the necessity of a handle anyway other than to replace a broken one, or maybe represent leadership, but then there are pots for that.

i was recently told that the hart chiefs are actually taught how to use them as a splint for a broken leg/arm. but now we have trained professionals for that

Axe handles make a handy tool to push a chain underneath a pile of logs on a skid. I never was a huge fan of contorting my arm in a weird position underneath a few hundred pounds of logs trying to reach for a chain that i may or may not be able to get to.

which is logical as to why brown pots have them

Handles are also very useful for rearranging said piles of logs. And dislodging one or two at a time. Sometimes, it gets the whole pile rolling off the truck, too

Correct djx!

While other handles are good for unleasing rolling logs off said GMC with 3208 naturally aspirated engine.

Still, other handles are usefull for identifying onself, like squareone07, opie03, jamesthomas, texasrebel and so one. More handles are usefull to grab ahold and climb up into things. Yes, yes, I could see how some handles would be usefull in the woods.

sorry to be on a soapbox here, but i was hazed numerous times by university officials in my 4 years at a&m. check out a&m's official definition of hazing. by rule, exams...study sessions...tutorials..fall under that massive umbrella. unwanted physical and emotional strain caused by tests and projects in order to "fit in" and "be a part" of this huge organization...oh, what're they calling it now.....oh yeah, the association of former students. and in response to LMNOQ's post, bonfire is built by EVERYONE pulling their weight and working hard...those people still need to be told where to go and what to do by people that know what's going on. next time you decide to throw in your two cents, make sure to at least SOUND like you know what you're talking about

I think this is one of the most retarded things I have ever read. Seriously. And this is freaking Texags for goodness sakes.

I also think these rules are good step for SB. Beating people in the woods during these sue happy times, especially in the open around a whole bunch of people, some of which may not feel as "red ass" as others, is never a really good thought out plan. I can't believe that people are actually getting their panties in a wad about this rule.

Now banning Groding, that is one bandwagon I can't jump on. I loved doing that.

BTW, isn't riding in the back of a pickup against Texas law, not just Bonfire rules?

I think it is only illegal for young children to ride in the backs of trucks but I am not 100% sure of that.

I wonder if hazing laws apply to former students who are not trying to be a part of, or or not leaders of any particular group. A legal adult whacking another adult with a stick on a voluntary basis doesn't seem like it quite fits with hazing....

I wonder if police recruits could say that their mandatory encounters with tear gas, pepper spray, and tazers while in training are "hazing"...they are certainly a rite of passage to become a police officer....

The whole "hazing" thing seems RETARDED to me with regards to willing adults, which I will define as those 18 and older. Don't adults have the right to voluntarily submit themselves to something if they so choose as free citizens, and aren't they protected from involuntary hazing already by simple assault and battery laws?

I'm not saying getting hit with a hickory stick makes any sense, or is a necessary thing, but I am saying if two consenting adults agree to hit and be hit, WTF does the law give a crap about it for?

something that i've always thought, is that college kids (freshmen especially) are always looking for a way to fit in and be apart of the group, and maybe it's just not the right kind of peer pressure or activity for "adults" to be participating in.

Why is there even still an argument? Its the rules. End of the dicussion. They make them, you follow them, or you suffer the consequences. You disagree, well you have 2 choices, and you can figure them out.

It doesn't matter if the rules were enforced in the past or why they made them. They are the rules now. I'm not one to toe the line ever, but all of this petty, retarded bull**** just is going to have to end sometime.

Here is how it works: Student Bonfire makes a rule. They explain reasons why rule was made. You follow rule or leave.

Can we stop arguing over stupid bull**** and build a fire?

I agree. If it is the rules of the group building the bonfire, then it is the rules, and if you want to participate, follow the rules. I have no problem with that. My problem is more that the hazing law in general, applied to adults, is, well....unnecessary and superfluous.
