Is there a list of the top 10-20 RCC / Orthodox Church Fathers? I'd like to keep handy as I start going through some of it myself.

And I between trying to read their full works, you can also good "church fathers on…." to find some highlights. That's how found the first church teaching on abortion actually dates back to 70 AD. There are several subjects like that that can found like that very early in Christian history.

Sigh…I guess the RCC lost its way regarding abortion somewhere in the chain of everything? Sure seems like a lot of Catholics are pro-choice.

The Church did not. Many of its members did. Similar to contraception. We're the last true holdout while all others have embraced what has always been seen as evil. But you'd never know that based on how many of our members act

ETA: the Catholic Church doesn't even make the standard exception of rape like many people advocate for. As far as abortion goes, the Church is 100% against

I never thought of this connection before, but you seem to be going down the same line of thinking of Hans Urs Von Balthazar. I haven't read his full work, but I've heard it's boiled down to this: "dare we HOPE all men are saved?"

I still don't think it fully aligns with scripture or church history, but I understand the thought process
