Dr. Richard Dawkins and Dr. Rosalind Picard will be here at Texas A&M for the 2025 Trotter Prize!

The Trotter Prize recognizes scholars whose work brings the fields of science and religion together in dialogue, and we are very pleased to host these two luminaries!

Dr. Dawkins and Dr. Picard will be speaking at Texas A&M Rudder Auditorium on Thursday Feb 13 at 7pm. Tickets are free, but limited, so get your tickets here:

If you're not familiar with Dawkins, he is probably the most famous atheist in the world!

This is a nice primer on Picard and her religious background: https://www.christianitytoday.com/2019/03/rosalind-picard-mit-professor-meets-author-knowledge/

I just don't respect Dawkins at all but if his visits cause folks to study their faith/beliefs then I think that is great.

Agree. Atheism is a dark place.

And it is worth it to read her testimony.

I have listened to Dr. Dawkins many times. He does not come from a dark place. He is a scientist who asks for proof. Faith is not proof. Simple.
I have been reading about Theo on the football board. It is wonderful that he will have a chance at life, but I wonder at those who keep posting that " God is good.." Someone had to die so that Theo could live, and there is a whole lot of science allowing him to do so. Do we tell the dead person's (child) family that God is good.Theo is alive because of science, and if you don't think so, unplug the machines. The doctors have shown us their proof, what can you show otherwise ?

All I can tell you is what I believe and have faith in.

When my father died suddenly, I could not see how any good could come out of it, but it changed the whole direction of my life. I moved back to my hometown and put my mom to work for me.

Because of that move, I was there to take care of my of grandparents when they aged and died, my sister when she died from cancer, and my mom when she got dementia and died. And all while having a special needs child who had three open heart surgeries with one Life flight, blind in her left eye so never drove, got her Master's walking to class, and now works for me and owns her own house.

None of that would have happened without my dad's death. Now you may say, yeah, but what about your dad?

My dad was a believer so he is with the Lord. Once you have faith in eternal life with the Lord, death does not have the sting it does when you do not have that faith. Now you might say I am deluding myself. Maybe so, but the peace and security I have because of God's grace and my faith have been a rock I can count on throughout my life.

I personally do not know what atheists do when bad things happen. And bad things in this life always will happen.

And where do they derive their purpose from?

Roman's 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.

It is about God, not me.

And I will add, once you get past your pride and understand that it all about God and not me, you get this incredible peace and joy. I can not explain it, but I certainly enjoy it. I call it shalom.

Definitionally the supernatural cannot be tested by the natural. Not sure what proof you would want. How many signs did Israel get in the wilderness yet they didn't believe. How many signs did Jesus perform and people didn't believe in Him either. Proof isn't going to happen this side of Heaven.

Fair enough. So what do you believe in? Say today something horrible happened. What do you rely on?

You have to believe in something. If not God, then something.

Meeting the measure of "proof" (rationalization) is still reliant on a belief in your understanding of the world (and beyond).

To show you how "stiff necked" and blind to the truth, the Pharisees and religious leaders did not acknowledge how wonderful healings were, they were just focused on the Law and the sabbath.

The healing was all by grace, the new covenant. The person did nothing to deserve the healing,

The Pharisees were still stuck on the old covenant of the Law.
