Pope Francis has accepted Cardinal DiNardo's resignation and appointed Bishop Joe Vasquez of Austin as the new Bishop of the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese.

I'm not sure what I think about this. I really liked Cardinal DiNardo.

I'm not sure what I think about this. I really liked Cardinal DiNardo.
I find the appointment of +Vasquez interesting. He was also tapped to oversee Tyler after the dismissal of +Strickland. Seems that +Vasquez has some level of favor in Rome.

So Bp Vazquez is over Austin and wasn't he also supposed to in charge of the Tyler diocese?

So is he completely out of those two in order to run Galveston or does he have to manage all three for the time being?

Austin bishop. Was helping Tyler, but they just got a bishop. Getting moved to Galveston Houston. Someone else coming to Austin

Would be ultimate awesome for +strickland to be moved to Austin.

Won't happen under the current pope, but man would that be awesome for thst diocese.

Correct. We now have +kelly from Dallas diocese. Starts in a couple weeks.

I think you guys will like Bp. Vasquez. A real servant of Christ. Great man.

I hope Austin gets Bp. Janak, but who knows with this pope.

I had the pleasure of attending two masses in 2024 with DiNardo as the officiant. Both times he mentioned his retirement and without outright saying it indicated he was hoping the Pope would accept it.

I think we will still see him around. He's an amazing guy and put on a great mass.

Bishop Vasquez used to be the Associate Bishop of Galveston-Houston. He's just going back home.
