Had just been reading about the battle between Nestorius and Cyril and ultimately the Council of Ephesus.

In the Davidic Kingdom, the queen was not the king's wife but his mother, a powerful and official position second only to the king himself, holding real authority and often depicted as having her own throne and crown. This institution, which began with King Solomon and Bathsheba, gave the queen mother immense influence as a chief counselor and intercessor for the king. The significance of this role in the Old Testament is used in Christian theology to understand Mary's position as the Queen Mother of the New Davidic Kingdom established by her son, Jesus, the last Davidic king.

Mary was the mother of the last Davidic king. Her status is proclaimed in the Annunciation, where Gabriel tells her she will be the mother of a royal son who would restore the Davidic kingdom. This is why Mary is referred to as the "Queen of Heaven" in Christian tradition, understanding it within the context of her royal office as the Queen Mother of the New Davidic Kingdom, rather than in the pagan sense.

This is not hard to grasp unless you just don't want to grasp it.

Probably could have left this little jab off what otherwise was a reasonable post.

It's hard to grasp because none of the NT writers make it clear. I understand the thread you're weaving and the Catholic/Orthodox position but it could have been cleared up via one of the apostles but was not. I'll even meet you halfway and claim that modern evangelicals likely don't revere Mary enough, but where scripture is silent, so I will be too.

Luckily we had the descendants of the apostles clear it up. However I think it reasonable to say that if your biggest spiritual flaw is loving and respecting the Virgin Mary too much, you're probably in a good spot.

If the requirement to believe something is that it must be clearly elucidated in the text of scripture then I think more than just the heavenly queenship of the mother of the last Davidic king is going to be an epistemological challenge. And arguments from silence are not going to make it any easier.

Otoh, please don't misunderstand my point as a criticism of anyone who recognizes that it can be appropriate to honor the Mother of God. Anyone who does so has opened themselves up to her maternal love and is on the road to realizing what it means to be her spiritual child, and that includes you!

True Devotion to Mary is the fastest and best way to Jesus, and away from satan. It sure worked for me. She really watches out for me...
