So just making sure we have your perspective. Firing people for being transgender is okay. Firing them for quoting Charlie Kirk in an unflattering way after his death is necessary. Firing someone for expressing anti-LGBTQ views, calling Catholicism wrong, and evangelizing to his teammates in the locker room after repeatedly being asked not to is bad.

Wasn't he also injured and this was a way to try to get out of paying him his contract money?

Think that is correct.

These guys were fired for six years of truly braindead talent and roster management and Jaden Ivey's distractions were part of that.

A decent read on the subject.

One of those things is protected by the 1st amendment, the rest are not but you know this already.

Edit to add: also okay with them firing him for those beliefs. Jesus told us we would be persecuted for following him, I'm guessing he knew this as well and took the risk.

First amendment or not, all those things are still protected.

The first amendment does not protect a trans person from being fired for being trans - but other laws do.

The first amendment does protect someone who criticizes Charlie Kirk or is insensitive about his death.

And the first amendment does protect someone who criticizes LGBTQ view, religion, and proclaims their faith. However, there are laws that protect public business who decide to fire employees that express their views in a way that is disruptive, aggressive, or inappropriate.

The point is that it is "persecution" in the eyes of some people when Ivey gets fired. And its "justice" in the eyes of those same people when someone gets fired for saying non complimentary things about Charlie Kirk. I think this is the potential for hypocrisy that Sapper is pointing to.

---

Do we know what Ivey's actual behavior was? If all he did was make some comments about what he believes, then hand me a torch and pitchfork also. If he was ranting at his teammates, being disrespectful to other views, preaching instead of working, or something like that, then why shouldn't he be fired? I think we need to know how he treated his coworkers and what was happening 'in the locker room'. If we don't know, then any response here is probably just reactionary bias, in my opinion.

People that are making this out to be about him being fired over his beliefs are either not fully aware of what is going on with Ivey or are being willfully ignorant to push a narrative.

He has been going on long drawn out rants on Instagram live that look pretty deranged.

Apparently he asked reporters in Chicago shortly after being traded if they fornicated.

He told Bulls staffers that Jesus healed his knee...before being shut down for the season because his knee was not actually healed.

His teammates were allegedly uncomfortable with his antics.

It is sad to see, he seems to be struggling mentally and I hope he gets the help that he needs.

Yep. I've been in HR for 16 years now. My recommendation, based on what I've seen, would have been to terminate. Businesses don't like paying headaches. From what I understand, he also went after Steph Curry's faith. Zero issue with being opposed to pride stuff (I too am exhausted of this "pride" culture), but he was effectively calling out his employer publicly. That'll get you fired regardless of the reason.

It's just the reality of business...if you're gonna be a PR headache, you better have made yourself unexpendible. He didn't have enough "rank on his chest" o do what he was doing, regardless of what he was actually saying.

And honestly, I went into this story wanting to back him up, but then I saw everything and realized he wasn't fired for his faith. He was fired for being a headache and calling out his team, league, and players.

Yup. There is also the reality that if he were a better player, the team would have found a way to work through this.

Being crazy as well as mediocre probably doesn't cut it for most squads.

Classic behavior for someone getting fired who is not very good at their job. If he was good enough, no one would care. This is not Christian persecution.

He's averaged 15 points per game in 6 NBA seasons. He was hurt this year but he's been a useful player.
