Howdy Ags,

I'm a current student on campus working to start a new student organization focused on the total and immediate abolition of abortion to the Glory of God: Aggies for Abolition.

You may have considered yourself pro-life, I did until I learned about abolitionism. I'm a Christian and thus believe that human beings are made in the image of God and are worthy of protection from womb to tomb. I believe that abortion is murder and should be treated as such. Equal protection for every human being! The same laws that apply to born people ought to apply to the unborn! You thought that was pro-life? Unfortunately not.

I used to think abortion was illegal in Texas...it's not. In the state of Texas, it is entirely legal for a mother to take abortion pills and murder her child. Surely the pro-life establishment wants this to be illegal! They don't. In an open letter to the public, over 70 pro-life organizations signed a letter stating this:

  • "As national and state pro-life organizations, representing tens of millions of pro-life men, women, and children across the country, let us be clear: We state unequivocally that we do not support any measure seeking to criminalize or punish women and we stand firmly opposed to include such penalties in legislation."
In fact, when House Bill 2197 (a simple, short bill applying equal protection) went forth in the Texas Legislature in 2025, it was the pro-life organizations who caused it to fail.

It's for this reason that an abolitionist chapter must exist at Texas A&M. While most pro-life organizations (including Students for Life) are explicitly non-religious, Aggies for Abolition is explicitly Christian and knows the only way to truly answer the sin of abortion is with the gospel. We will be working with Abolitionists Rising, Foundation to Abolish Abortion, and Abolish Abortion Texas to bring this message to campus and mobilize those who recognize abortion as the national sin it is.

If you're a current student, former student, or anyone looking to support or discuss this, please PM me or comment. If you'd like to support the organization feel free to email aggiesforabolition@gmail.com

I completely agree, because at the heart of the Gospel is mercy. For Catholic Christians, the Latin word for mercy is "misericordia" which literally means "miserable heart". This pain in your heart is for the pain of others who are going through something terrible and that moves you to do something about it. It was the late Pope John Paul II, who wrote a whole teaching letter on mercy entitled, "Rich in Mercy" or in Latin "Dives in Misericordia" in 1981. Two important points he made are that, "Mercy is love's second name" and that mercy is "the greatest attribute of God."

What I have learned after 30+ years of involvement with the Respect Life ministry is that love will end the killing of innocent children. I don't deny that mercy is the only way, as I believe it will take multiple avenues, legislative being one. However, I have learned over time that love is the best way to people's hearts. Having been someone on the sidewalk yelling about "murder" and "evil" - I found the best message to be instead about "love" and "mercy". I made the change in my sidewalk preaching to highlight the parable of the Prodigal Son (Lk 15:11-32) and noted particularly how the Father ran to welcome his son home. I believe that is what is waiting for everyone who chooses abortion because of the crisis they are in at that moment.
