I'm no lawyer for sure but from just a layman's view, sounds to me like the drug thing is being introduced to paint the Nigerians as more nefarious than thought and to give Jussie a possible "drug dependency" excuse/out. I wouldn't be surprised if some request comes through to let him serve any sentence in rehab or if no jail time it is under the condition that he go to drug rehab.

Oh and I love the dumbass moral equivalencies people like that Iyanla are making to Trump lying. Trump didn't stage a fake hate crime, mail a threatening letter to himself, etc.

True, except there is too much evidence that Jussie premeditated the whole thing. His phone calls, his lying on TV, his actions, etc

And the main difference is Jussie had MANY chances to come clean, yet did not. He has not been under the influence of drugs for weeks, allegedly. He is not currently addicted.
Agree and if I'm the prosecutor I bring all that up. I'm just saying its a theory as to why he would bring up his own drug use.

I think he assumed he'd done his part for the liberal cause and would get full political and media protection (IE assume it was true and never ask for any evidence)

And honestly in the beginning that's exactly what Rham and the media tried to do but there was too much social media blowback demanding evidence and refusing to believe the incredibly unlikely story

It's actually a great example of how internet has greatly eroded the power that full media control once gave them. Before this the media could simply act like it's true, not ask for any evidence and never question Jussie, simply elevate him to Holy Martyr status
