All of them?

I thought parts of it were still left, and when I read it I immediately thought, cheaper to rehab than to rebuild?

Maybe it's just the water source that is privately owned in this case that makes it a prime location.

Gibbons Creek Power Plant implodes final structure

The water source is probably a big part, as is the existing high capacity grid connection. But don't discount being close to the Semiconductor Institute at A&M Rellis that will be turning out the trained personnel they will need.

The amount of smooth brain comments about the Grimes County plans is staggering. Most in the area thinks it's a data center, or a lie so they can build a data center. They think Grimes county is going to be giving them tax money. There are comments asking how much water the rocket launches there would use. Or if this was for the solar farms. And the only jobs would be transplants from California.
We really are a nation of morons.

You went to a comments section. So you kind of got what you asked for.

The internet is full of morons, not the nation. Big difference.

Seeing the same sentiments in Caldwell county relative to the boom there too. Most of the negative comments come from people who don't have a clue WTF they are complaining about

They've got an entire data center laying around they aren't using?! Or maybe there is a Colossus 2 or 3 that deprecates Colossus 1.

To be fair, there has been a data center planned at the gibbons creek site for awhile now, that's why they are making those comments.

The value to a datacenter or a chip fab there is the transmission access that can be provided through the switching station that is located on the property. The confluence of 138KV/345KV at the site solves for the transmission issue. The capacity required to run it is a different story.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

That might be the biggest economic news ever delivered in the Brazos Valley. Certainly up there with Harvey Mitchell's win on the site for A&M.

Being that it's a KBTX article I wondered how they would loop in irrelevant information mean to smear Elon Musk/SpaceX. Rusty Surette never disappoints.

And half the story was KBTX interviewing people in Grimes County who simply wanted to gripe about it.

Nearly everyone with a doublewide and a couple of pit bulls 20 miles away are complaining on Facebook about it already ruining their way of life.

Someone had the bright idea of putting together all the images of the earth from the night-side earth images into an animation.

There is another indication other than city lights on the night side that there is in fact intelligent life at least somewhere on this planet

the speculation is that they released it early so that the locals get try and shoot it down. the townies complain all the item about not having city-like things but then try to shoot down any deal that looks like it might change things.
nobody knows where the other locations are. why? because they didn't release it.

I'm pretty sure they didn't "release it early". The tax abatement looks to have a 30 day statutory hearing notice period.

why haven't we heard about the other locations? they can't use NDAs for this?

There's a lot of factors in site selection for any large infrastructure project. You'd absolutely be running multiple sites through the process simultaneously but usually wouldn't see multiple sites proceed to a public hearing stage at the same time largely because of the potential conflicts/lack of confidence that would suggest.

I'm pretty sure, but not completely, that NDAs would be in play for the front end discussion and negotiation with the taxing authorities.

somebody on the aggieland board said the other sites might be from another state and not require the same kinds of state reporting for tax abatements (30 days prior).

or

they might not be getting the tax abatements on other sites

or

they haven't got that far yet.

no idea. we'll know sometime in june i guess. don't buy up all the BCS land just yet. i got $100 million burning a hole in my pocket.
