Yes, since it's an immigration status and not an ethnic one.

People that use "African-American" in lieu of the more correct "black" are stupid and part of the problem.

Sorry but you are factually incorrect, the actual definition of African American is "black Americans" who are descendants of enslaved Africans.

This is America and much is owed due to the historical injustice of enslaving the Black American. This debt has been co-opted by undeserving African, Mexican, Asian, immigrants and now gays, gay ass varieties, fat people, the mentally ill.

If anybody is being replaced it is due to the leveraging of civil rights implemented mainly due to the continued Black injustices inflicted by Democrats after 14th Amendment.

This was a bright spot of the new SCOTUS appointed: Justice Ketanji is Generational African American (GAA), i.e. Descendant of American Slaves (DOAS) unlike Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Joy Ann Reid and approximately 90% of the "African Americans" in Harvard's entering class this year, according to the Harvard Crimson.

There are also more descendants of slave holders currently attending Harvard than DOAS.

So being pissy about African American label is virtue signaling at best.

African American is a mater of choice rather than ancestry.
About 20% of Americans who claim to be black have a white ancestor, including DOAS (shamefully).
It all returns to the "one drop" rule before Loving v. Virginia decision of 1967.

Can you explain "actual definition"?

And how does the party of "I cannot define what a woman is" be so adamant about who is and is not an "African-American" despite clear linguistics on the term?

Not just that, but if "African-American" isn't just an immigration status (as it actually is) then you'd be calling Lennox Lewis an African-American, same as Idris Elba, etc.

They're all just black dudes, from England. Elon is an African-American, just a white one.

if only we could apply those same linguistic principles to the definitions of semitism/antisemitism.

I think the more correct term for blacks born in the US is "American".

Elon is African-Canadian-American. He has citizenship in all 3 countries.

throughout most of modern english language, the term african-american implies exactly what you suggested it does. In that same regard, typically a word is first defined and the prefix 'anti' is just added to it to suggest the opposite. a different set of rules has been applied to the definition of antisemitism.

Again, how so?

Its the concept of being Jewish. If one is against the Jewish people, they would be antisemitic.

Very much how many of those who oppose Trump are anti-American as he focuses on what is best for the United States of America and its citizens.

Nice try, but its not me with the convenient ignorance.

You are wanting to "undo" the current use of the term and meaning and go back to linguistic roots. I get it and its a worthy debate on whether the term needs further explanation.

But the most common understanding of "antisemitism" is the one reflected in dictionaries and widely understood.

ANTI-SEMITISM Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster
Quote:

: hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group

We could try a similar approach to the word negro. Are you suggesting that since negro was derived from the Latin word for black - "niger".

However, if you start using it to refer to black folks on f16 and in real life, you may be met with some 'volatile' responses as the current, common understanding is the word reflects a culture of discrimination against blacks, particular in the United States.

There are also more than 2 additional semitic religions if you are wanting to use the term as you intended.

Let me know if I can provide further information for you on this.

you're getting closer. but your thesis is now only supported by your personal (and incorrect) definition of semitism referring to the concept of being jewish. what do your friends merriam and webster have to say about that word, for the sake of consistency?

I do appreciate your condescension though while once again arguing for me.
