I bought an Oculus Quest 2 a few years back and got a couple of months enjoyment out of it (Half-life Alyx was really good) but pretty quickly lost interest in it. The metaverse, from what I saw, was just boring with nothing to really do. It wasn't clear who this was supposed to be for.

I've since passed the Oculus to one of my kids who seems to like it more than I did, but just for games and not the metaverse.
Same experience with the Oculus 2. A couple of months of play, and then they've sat.

Amazing visual experience, but clunky to wear, and not enough content. Fun thing at a party to bring out if you can cast what's happening for the player(s) on a screen for others to watch/be part of.

My friend got one, he said the p0rn on it was really cool. He made me wear it once and take a look, it seems like you are really boinking the chick. But it does seem a bit loserly to indulge in meta-p0rn beyond the novelty effect period.

Young people in the west are not using FB either

Yep, FB is just for old f@rts like us. No one under 40 uses FB. Neither of my 2 kids have ever been on it. My daughter is just on snapchat to talk to her friends, no other SM like instagram or anything like that

VR has a lot of interesting use cases. But for 99% of all people is too expensive and that makes it a small market that is expensive to develop and has a very very narrow path to 3rd party financial success. Ya Beat Saber might make money but the rest? Meh.

Based on my use of some wearable monitor/AR glasses those will be viable for the public way before this stuff even if it came later.

He stole this too - from Snow Crash.

At least he didn't steal the Sumerian ur-language virus drek you have to wade through for untold pages every few every few chapters.

Fun book though and I love Stevenson.

I just got back from actual Hawaii, my 50th state to visit. No interest in wearing dork glasses to sample a fake world that looks like a first edition of Madden.

I house-sat for the father of VR, Dr. Fred Brooks, author of The Mythical Man Month. He was a beautiful Christian man, just passed recently. He used the VR glasses to help his wife remodel their kitchen. I'm sure the porn aspect didn't surprise him a bit. Tech always devolves to the basest use possible..
