What really surprised me about this story is who okayed that move. Originally Stephanie Cutter's idea but Plouffe supported it. Campaign chair Dillion is backing away saying she wasn't in favor of it and waited a few weeks before finally greenlighting it. That delay likely increased the costs to set up concerts in a short time frame, even if the performers themselves were not getting paid. (Color me skeptical on that however.)

The talent was not paid, but their production companies were most likely overpaid. Since most performers have a stake in their production companies, then it is logical to assume that they were indirectly paid. Nothing is free.

FYI Look for huge tax write offs for the performers for 2024.
