BTW the $8M is what US government agencies spent on Politico subscriptions (usually Politico Pro for policy tracking access, see https://www.politicopro.com/). Of that $8M, only $24,000 was used by USAID. Here is an example of a single representative's office and what they spent of Politico subscriptions. Lauren Boebert, $7,150.00.

Rand Paul carries on the tradition kicked off by Sen. Tom Coburn and his Wastebook.

Not ironic at all, Sen. Tom Coburn also called out USAID over a decade ago for questionable uses of funds.

In 2011 after Mubarak was ousted, USAID paid a handful of NGOs to start up "pro-democracy" programs in Egypt (illegally). Once Egypt clued in, they arrested dozens of the participants including Ray LaHood's (sec of transport) son who was being paid. USAID later paid almost $5M in "bail" to release 16 American NGO employees who were not registered to work in Egypt and had been arrested.

The event was whitewashed in the official USAID OIG report and Sen. Coburn had 6 whistleblowers come to him saying their audits reports had been modified by OIG in this incident and several others.

The draft audit reports he obtained contained over 400 negative assessments of USAID actions that were ultimately removed in the published audits.

Yeah, it's definitely both. Digging into these, some were covert ops and some were just a grift to pocket everything as overhead.

It's almost like the monster got so big, not even USAID could put a lid on it.

Thanks! All those retired school experts, or the young ones who got PHD and brown nosed their way with big words, and spent little time in the classroom and went to carrying a briefcase and are either double dipping or drawing huge salary should be shown the door.

Your classroom teacher could tell you who is making the grade and who is not. Dont need a lot of science and numbers and weeks of in service with guy flown in from Austin of Washington to tell you.

Of course these kind of bureaucrats are so much smarter than teachers and never even ask them much.

This is what I hinted at on the other thread: either Congress has control of the spending of these agencies or they don't. If they do, ANY Senator or Rep should be able to access this -- they voted on it. If they don't, then what Trump/DOGE is doing is proper.

In other words, either the Executive Branch OR Legislative Branch (or both) gets access here. They aren't a branch unto themselves regardless of how created or funded.
