Vance strikes tough tone against Russia, Putin

Quote:

Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that the U.S. would hit Moscow with sanctions and potentially military action if Russian President Vladimir Putin won't agree to a peace deal with Ukraine that guarantees Kyiv's long-term independence.
Quote:

Vance said the option of sending U.S. troops to Ukraine if Moscow failed to negotiate in good faith remained "on the table," striking a far tougher tone than did Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth
Quote:

On Ukraine, Vance said it was too early to say how much of the country's territory would remain in Russian hands or what security guarantees the U.S. and other Western allies could offer Kyiv.
Quote:

"There are any number of formulations, of configurations, but we do care about Ukraine having sovereign independence," he said.

Wonder if this is just a performative change in tone due to some possible pushback from previously appearing too favorable towards Russian demands, or if Putin may be insisting on being gifted the whole enchilada behind the scenes, over and above what Trump already views as a better deal than he has to offer.

TBH, it would be entertaining to see Putin get on Trump's bad side.

Putin wanted the whole enchilada to begin with. I'm not sure if that's changed for him. It's well known he doesn't want Ukraine to exist as a nation.

WTF? Just after Hegseth said the opposite earlier in the week?

It would be nice if the U.S. had a coherent foreign policy.

Trump went in soft, basically Ukraine surrenders, kick the can and Russia rebuilds and comes back for the rest later.

I can see that causing problems from either the Russia or Ukraine side

So, within a short period of time, the US has;

Destroyed our relationship with our allies Canada, Mexico, and now the UK.

Threaten the ME with a "take over".

Put Tariffs on China.

Change the name of a body of water that the rest of the world doesn't recognize.

Then........pick a fight with Russia.

All while destroying our intelligence agencies in gaining insight to the plans and capabilities of our enemies.

Sounds like a failed Casino owner is running the place.... America is far too arrogant right now.

We haven't destroyed relationships with anyone. The same histrionics occurred during Trump's first term and… guess what? He turned out to be correct, which resulted in a lot of additional respect for him and his insights after the fact.

So how about we just take a Valium and give this more than a month to cook before declaring the world to be on fire and the USA in a tailspin, eh? Jeebus.

You should sit this one out. There's a 100% chance you're overreacting to what is a complicated negotiation. What we know for a fact is Trump is the only president since the wall fell that didn't watch Russia invade a neighbor. Then a year after he's gone Russia does what it should have done years earlier. Why did they wait five years? We'll never know but it's likely they viewed Trump differently than Biden and obviously that view was correct.

He hasn't destroyed any relationships and only the criminals and fraudsters scream the loudest.

Never threatened to take over the ME, and the palestinians are considered a scourge on earth to most in the ME....especially the Arabs.

Where were you arguing when they changed the name on pancake syrup and all the military bases across the country.

"All while destroying our intelligence agencies in gaining insight to the plans and capabilities of our enemies." We don't need to gain intel on our enemies while they let us destroy ourselves from within, and certainly not by letting them spend billions on asinine crap while getting kickbacks.

Ideally, yes. We will see though.

Quote:

This is truly a historic event. This war will change the world for decades. Even our children will live in an era when Russia will never return to the West as it was.

Viktor Orban:

Unfortunately, I agree with that. Russia remains our neighbor, and that is the problem. The Russians have accepted the fact that Central European countries like Hungary have become members of NATO. Although they have always criticized this, saying that it is unfair, because it was promised that the territories of the former Soviet Union would not join NATO. But we made our move, and the Russians accepted it.

Ukraine was a buffer zone between NATO and Russia. But when we started developing its army and talking about possible NATO membership, the buffer zone turned into a war zone. It is no longer a buffer. That is the problem.

I have always told the West: do not consider this war yours. This is a war between two Slavic peoples - brutal, but brotherly. Russians and Ukrainians. Isolate them, keep them away, but don't make it your war. But that's exactly what you did. The US president came and said, "We're at war." But why? Nobody knows the answer.

From the very beginning, I was sure that war would make Russia stronger. That's a history lesson. World War I, World War II - they always start weaker, but they get stronger. That's a lesson Hungary learned.
Orban should know by now the 'why.' But I won't get into it here.

The proxy war has grown their military capabilities/investment (spend) tremendously. And fwiw to OP JD Vance rebuked the absurdity of the WSJ lies about what he said:

Quote:

US Vice President J.D. Vance said on Friday that The Wall Street Journal misinterpreted his comments about the possibility of sending US troops to Ukraine

"The fact that the WSJ misinterpreted my words is absurd," Vance wrote on H's social media.

"As I have always said: American troops should not be in conflict zones unless our interests and security require it. And this war is only between Russia and Ukraine," Vance added.

All options are on the table all the time. That is how you negotiate.

Really, someone in the media should read a book or something other than the DNC weekly talking points.

Yes, which is why JD had to rebuke the WSJ as fast as possible.

Fake news is fake.

Very broadly, the WSJ is pretty obvious in their slant/bias/obvious disdain for the Trump administration.

And those aren't opinion pieces, just recent fake news. The WSJ should be taken no more seriously on politics these days than CNN or the NYT.

Funny, the Russians don't sound like Trump picked a fight with them. And it's our intelligence agencies that put us into a proxy war with Russia for the past several years.
Quote:

Third President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev:
The presidents of Russia and the US have talked at last. This is very important in and of itself. The previous US administration cut off all high-level contacts in an attempt to punish and humiliate Russia. As a result, the world was balancing on the brink of the Apocalypse. How did we get there? It just so happened at some point that the US appointed itself the country-in-chief on our planet with the exclusive right to wage a hybrid war against our people, to mete out justice and grant pardons. It was a grave mistake, which nearly wiped humanity off the face of the earth. Nobody attempted something like that before senile Biden's team. It's true that we would hold shouting matches with America and sometimes practiced brinkmanship, but nobody slapped personal sanctions on Khrushchev during the Cuban Missile Crisis or on Brezhnev during the conflict in Afghanistan or severed contacts between the heads of state.

On the contrary, the leaders kept lines of communication open, which helped resolve crises.
In our small, controversial but highly interdependent world there can be no chief country or planetary ruler. This is a lesson that must be learned by the arrogant American elites and the so-called deep state (US bureaucracy). They need to understand that contacts and consultations are much more valuable than chest-thumping and the desire to see the strategic defeat of a country like Russia.
The arrogance is rightly being cut back on, if anything, because the world doesn't need the CIA/USAID/NED nexus to operate speech laws and subjugate governments. We need to get out of the 'lie about democracy' business as JD stated.
