There was a Black Jeopardy skit done several years ago with Tom Hanks. SNL did another new Black Jeopardy skit last night with Tom Hanks making an appearance on that skit.

I saw the original skit. This wasn't funny. Him getting all shaky at the thought of shaking a black man's hand was just stupid and awkward. Horrible acted. And hyper out-of-touch. No one knows anyone like that. Comedy is supposed to have SOME basis in reality. This could not be more out-of-touch and off the mark.
It fits the theme of the joke perfectly.

Doug being afraid of a black man, whom he shares many, many cultural aspects with, IS funny.

The reality is that most racism is based on ignorance. Doug is scared because he doesn't know better. But he should know better, because he is more like the host of the show than he knows. If Doug would just hang out with more black people, he would be more comfortable with them.

The only thing he knows about black people are what he sees on the TV. The only things that the black contestants and the host know about MAGA is what they see on TV. Don't trust the TV, get to know people that aren't like you.

It's not out of touch. It is actually a very intelligent joke.

LOL...yeah, I can see how white liberal male feminists would find it humorous. Very "intelligent" to imply MAGA people are just bumbling low IQ racists. Super smart to antagonize roughly half the country...surely this will send ratings through the roof.

Good luck with that strategy...PLEASE keep doubling down on it. Worked well in 2024 election.

The BSC affluent white soccer moms on my feed are running with the "everyone I disagree with is racist/ignorant" angles too. It's hilarious...your party is committing suicide and praise God for that.

I'm aware.

I just found it funny that he made that comment without even knowing what the person that he quoted was talking about.

Do you believe that every black person has a sauce drawer full of Heinz ketchup packets and grape jelly?

Generalizations are funny because there is some truth to them. Taking offense at generalizations because there are exceptions is exactly what would make Dave Chapelle want to punch people in the *****.

The entire skit that was showed last night wasn't posted on this thread. I did get confused. Sorry, TexAgs and NPR are my only real news sources.

The reaction of many on this thread makes our side look really bad. It was a tribute the the skit 4-5 years ago linked above. Hanks was in a MAGA hat then, and did the same backing off the handshake scene. But it was a positive take on Black/WhMAGA relations.

To take that one short reenactment as something leftist/woke/antiMAGA is just ignorant and makes "our side" look petty and horrible. I even read a piece a few weeks ago touting how the black Jeopardy skit was positive towards MAGA.

IDGAF what Dave Chapelle thinks, and I'm a fan of his. He also ain't punching sh** lol. Comedy is supposed to have some basis in reality. Otherwise, it simply ain't funny, with very few exceptions. This was so over the top it just was completely unrealistic, and therefore, not funny.

I hope your side never stops doubling down though. I hope they make a million more skits like this.

What is funny to me though, is that, in reality, I am 100% convinced that conservative redneck Trumpers are FAR more likely to embrace black people, shake their hands, open door for them, and even help them when broken down on the side of the road than your avg run of the mill miserable and useless lib. This is after decades of observation. You guys think blacks are too stupid or incompetent to get ID's like everyone else for crying out loud.

Keep doing what you've been doing.

No, but if you add in some Taco Bell Diablo sauce - you'd be at the Chateau de Zephyr!

Taco Bell sauces, soy and duck sauce, CFA sauces and Whataburger ketchups (reg and spicy) are always on the ready. I thought everyone had an emergency stash, black and white.

I actually thought it was funny when they did that character originally. But I can't believe they tried to reuse that particular aspect of the skit verbatim.

Trying too hard I think.

I guess I look at it differently. That sketch is 100% about over the top stereotyping. I saw Hanks character as nothing but that. In other words, black people may think white Trump supporters meet that stereotype, but they probably are not actually all like that. It wasn't particularly funny, but I didn't look deeper than that for meaning.

The first time they did it i thought both the host and Tom Hank's character were equally hesitant of each other.

At any rate you might be right - might not have been intended that badly. But I still thought it odd that they barely changed it up.

So the violent attack on marchers in Selma Alabama was orchestrated by the guy above, Dallas County Sheriff Jim Clark (D). A little hint to what party he and all the other people in power who attacked marchers that day belonged to. They aren't Republcians. Tom you and all the other lib idiots can't be so stupid you don't know they all belonged to your side. Democrats !!! On second thought you can be and are that stupid.

I wasn't even offended, Hanks ruined a funny sketch with Eddie Murphy killing it, with the most lazy, unfunny lines and acting I've ever seen. I would bet anything that Tom told them what he would do and they had to let him because he's a legend and a 5+ time host.

It was sad and pathetic, and you could see the energy in the audience drained the moment he showed up mocking Trump voters, many of which silently voted for Trump.

Hanks is an unfunny has-been living off of his once great acting in comedies and serious movies like Philadelphia, but he is an irrelevant hack and has been for quite some time

Why do normal people continue to watch the leftist SNL!

Incredible!
Watched primarily by leftists, because
1. They have no sense of humor
2. Reinforces all their prejudices.
There was a time in the last century, SNL would produce a great show......that went away decades ago.

Late night comedy was in fact......great late night comedy.....in the last century....

Johnny Carson and other comedians were excellent. Even David Letterman, before he flipped left.

Those late 1960's and 1970's comedy shows were the best......
There were three definitive times at SNL was funny

The original cast in the 70s

The cast in the late 80s early 90s

And to a lesser degree, the cast in the mid 00s

Other than an occasional skit that will make its way on YouTube or something it has really been just awful. And given all the material they could've taken from Biden and Kamala and the ridiculous Democrats that they basically ignored for the most part just shows you how partisan it has gotten. This is the same show that really push the envelope back in the 70s and 80s. And picked on both sides.

These were good.

Tom Wanks. And this "skit" proves it. What a pos Tom Wanks is.

Every "performance" where Tom "WANKS" actually tries to sell himself as a normal "American" is complete Barbara Streisand. That's BS for those in Rio Lindo.

What a turd. Just proves he's got a perfectly punchable face btw.

What is sad is that SNL has some very funny skits and was the birth place of many of our greatest comedians. But, these skits get overshadowed when they do stupid woke stuff. I used to watch in the 70s thru early 2000s. The 50 year anniversary show had some great moments. The Tom Hanks part was just offensive. Their "weekend update" news has always had a liberal slant. I have never watched any of their current stuff in the past 15 years.
Did the 50th anniversary episode show the entire Black Jeopardy skit, or only that short clip with the handshake? That's really important.

They did an entire skit with Eddie Murphy impersonating Tracy Morgan, who was next to him impersonating another character. Then they swapped out Eddie Murphy for Tom Hanks.

Yea. There was a skit with Eddie Murphy, Tracy Morgan and Chris Rock and the small part with Tom Hanks was the focus.

Doug is a funny character who 8 years ago was used to show Trump voters and black guys have more in common than you think. It's a funny character if you saw the original. I think they were somehow pressed for time in a 4 hour show last night and forced it in the sketch.

The skit took a wrong turn when one of Chris Rock's jokes fell flat. And it never recovered. But if you were offfended by the whole skit, you should take the stick out of your butt.

Here is what I don't understand TH. He does a world class movie "Band of Brothers"( with very few blacks now that I am thinking about it) and yet he insults those very veterans who were white, believed in god, not necessarily well educated, and from rural areas. He has always bothered me that he should know better.

It was the 50th anniversary show. Every single skit they did was a retread. The main impetus of that sketch as getting Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Keenan Thompson, and Tracy Morgan on stage together.

Meh, I laughed. I always enjoy Hanks and Kenan. I like to laugh and watch things and not be offended or somehow try to ruin my otherwise good time by reading into things. I know more than a few right wingers that would sit through that and just pout. But…as Ricky Gervais says " You found it offensive? I found it funny. That's why I'm happier than you."

Yall gotta loosen up. Gawdam.
