Many public officials seem to be unable to recognize the unintended consequences of their actions. If there is a New York state law that allows the governor to remove an elected city mayor from office, based on anything other than court conviction of a felony or malfeasance, it should be be repealed.

The logical extension of this practice, would be the President of the United States removing an elected governor under similar circumstances. A really strange road to go down.

It's not a "logical extension" because there is no basis for a President to remove a governor.

Further, the states make up the "United States". The "United States" did create the states. The relationship between a state and a city is completely different than that.

Yep, and States can decide for themselves how to manage their cities. If they want a governor to have such a power then so be it - that's their choice. Same as not allowing city laws to conflict with or override state laws, etc.

Governance begins and ends with the state. City:State is not the same as State:U.S.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with the left…

Threats to democracy in 2025:

-Free speech
-Certain unelected bureaucrats, but not most of them
-Knowing where money goes before Treasury hits 'send'
-And now….local elected officials, especially if they're black and step off the plantation for a minute

While probably not intended, Trump forcing the Dems to eat their own is perfect! Let them dump Adams and bring in some knee jerk, anti-Trump commie. New Yorkers can keep getting more of the same.

Looking forward to the discussions of Eric Adams' red-pill moment when he's running for office for the GOP in 2026.

He stated last week on Fox that he was running as a democrat. Let that city burn to the ground.

Democrats hate America.

They are only wanting to remove Adams because he has agreed to cooperate with Trump and Republicans to clean up the Illegals Problem (Trump forced this cooperation through offering to drop Federal Charges against Adams). The fact that NYC was going broke supporting the Illegals plus the crime wave from Criminal Illegals were also huge problems for Adams.

The fact that the Governor is so blinded as to want this to continue is beyond belief. But, NY voters will probably support her doing this. They will probably welcome the crime wave, societal collapse and city bankruptcy rather than cooperate with Republicans.

They are Fools and deserve whatever happens to them.

Rich, white, libs, taking out the duly elected, black, mayor of New York.

Why? Because they value illegal aliens, even the really bad ones, more than the legal residents of New York.

Dems please keep it up.

I'm curious, a white governor is removing a black mayor.

Kind of racist isn't it?

You do realize that was tongue-in-cheek? The point is, the Democrats have already chased a number of high-profile democrats to the GOP with their insanity, backstabbing, and generally nasty disposition. A couple of them are in the administration now. But they can't help themselves. It's just who the left is.

As far as Adams is concerned, it really doesn't matter to me what he does, but you know he has to at least be questioning his loyalty to the party considering what they are doing to him now.

POTUS - federal government official
Governor - state government official
Mayor - state government official

Your comparison fails.

It's more like a mayor displacing a county judge, or vice versa.
At the federal level, it is hard to come up with a rational comparison. The entire federal executive branch serves at the pleasure of the POTUS.

Something I recently learned about NYC and then counties. NYC is superior to county officials. Not the other way around as is the case in other states. Just another quirk in NY state laws, such as naming trial courts as Supreme Courts and the highest state court being the Court of Appeals.

Nope.

But, tougher for Trump and Elon to fix state level fraud. For election fraud specifically, you just need to get something through congress. Other types of state fraud though, would create a lot more difficulty.

But, why go for the smaller, harder to catch fish when there is a giant tuna right next to the boat and you own a brand new Muskernet designed specifically to catch giant tuna.

I learned from my daughter's geography class that a city that holds all of the power of a state (little s) a primate city.

NY state is a prime example. Makes sense that NYC holds more power than the county it is in, no? I wonder if there are any other states where the city holds more power than the county, but don't want to look it up.

My understanding is that it is unique to NYC.

Adams lost his System membership card the day he pushed back on illegal immigration. This is just the natural outcome.

If Kumswalla had won instead of Trump, the Federal charges would have moved forward to oust Adams.

One way or another, Adams was done as a Dem.
