I hear you guys that wanna pay down the debt. That's exactly how I manage my own finances.

But this is also about winning the optics battle with a huge mass of uneducated idiots. I'm ok with getting a rebate until they can prove that less of my money is being routed to a corrupt cause.

If 10% needs to come back to taxpayers to show the masses why this is important, so be it. But 90% needs to go towards reducing debt.

I don't need the money but lots of people right now do.

When I look at the median household income for Houston I shake my head and wonder how they do it.

Not even coming close to bragging here about my income as most people on this board probably have a nicer house, car etc than I do. I am just saying the idea that lots of people are struggling to pay for food is a real thing right now.

But while I might lack in income I do have a lovely singing voice, play the flute, and have many leather bound books.

Exactly, some amount needs to be sent to the taxpayers to "reimburse" them for the fraudulent misuse of the taxes collected. The optics of that are important. People will associate that money with the effort of Trump and DOGE. The budget, to the extent it is ever balanced, needs to come on the back of spending cuts

This. When people get money back because the waste, fraud, and abuse has been cut, those in opposition to DOGE will have a hard time convincing people that the effort shouldn't continue and even ratchet up.

People need to feel a positive benefit of smaller government to help negate the cries from the Democrats that reducing expenditures will automatically lead to calamity.

The old "DOGE Dividend"

Last time we got something close to that it was a $1200 covid check in exchange for having our fundamental rights violated, currency devalued, locked in our houses, forced to wear political regalia dust masks, and our livelihoods threatened if we didn't inject an experimental drug into our bodies.

So I'm fine with a DOGE Dividend as a form of token consideration for the above.

Rebates should only be sent to people who actually pay income tax on a net basis.

Those who don't pay income tax or get refunds greater than their tax due have no skin in the game.

You can't just "pay down the debt". Most of it is bonds with defined terms and service to the buyers.

You have it ass backwards. The national debt is insurmountable, and even with a balanced budget and a trillion a year in savings the next dem president will blow through any progress in year one. Giving taxpayers money the govt already budgeted for fraud and abuse is an infinitely better use for those funds

Totally agree and maybe it helps with the mid-terms and if Trump can keep both houses perhaps some legislation can be passed that will make it more difficult for the next Dem president to waste those tax dollars.

Sadly they probably will but THIS time those dividends at least will go to living people who actually have a real SSN. It SHOULD only go to taxpayers since this is tax "revenue" collected from taxpayers, at least the bulk of it.
