They did not give a damn about those in flyover country and even disdained them. The financialization of our economy has had so many disastrous downstream effects. I really just do not care about what happens to people in the richest counties in the country just outside of DC.

They hate everyone who disagreed with them and were jealous of anyone who was successful, regardless of where they lived. HTH.

It is not the role of government to provide more taxpayer funded jobs than needed to perform necessary government tasks. They have better benefits than the private sector. I have no sympathy for them.

Edited to add that people get laid off in the private sector all the time.
I hate tu. It's in my blood.

I can empathize with anyone that loses their job. I've been there before. It absolutely SUCKS. I was also for about 3 months furloughed during Covid, again that uncertainty SUCKED. That does not mean I think anyone's job should be protected or sacred.

1) As a class, I could care not that Federal fat is being trimmed. No one's job is 100% secure.
2) I don't see drug overdose linked to "fly over country" or a "learn to code" issue
Those two maps are essentially one in the same. The second one is just darker. Cheap Chinese fentanyl has undoubtedly flooded the market, but all it's done is kill more in the same areas that were drug addled before.

I have certain people actively protesting my jobsites - their goal is to make sure that i am unemployed a learn to code.

I do not feel bad for them and in lots of situation applaud their demise. Common hate!

But Trump has not yet talked about paying down the 36T elephant in the room.

Drug overdoses, suicides, etc. . . are often responses of people who have no hope. Globalization and financialization of our economy have hollowed out much of the heartland. I think it's at least part of the reason for the increase.

Bring laid off sucks(from experience). That's what rainy day funds are for(also from experience).

ETA: I do feel for anyone who loses their job though. It's ****ing tough out there.

Government does not need to be #1 employer in US and it has been for a while now. Government employment was also used to offset terrible economic policies (looking at Obama tenure).

This is part of the Short Term Pain.

90% of DC bureaucrats are die hard Dim. Politically it doesn't hurt the Republicans if all the bureaucrats are laid off. Same holds true for NGOs.

They made their bed. Let 'em lay in it

The wife came home today and said that the two new NRCS agents under USDA were fired last Friday. I am sorry for them but I still support the elimination of a lot of government jobs, departments and programs. We just can't afford the size or government that we have today.

Are you saying that was a component of Obama's "jobless recovery"?
