I had no idea the Federal government was involved in this.

I'm sure the court order stoping this will be incoming shortly...including reasons why not allowing congestion pricing is racist.

Shiny red ball to change dialogue from Adams' removal. Watch for the governor to back down on removing the mayor, or if not, for escalation.

The list of things they are NOT involved in would be shorter.

Most New Yorkers who drive in Manhattan are going to love that. We were there when it went into effect and everyone we talked to was mad about it.

Man, was it nice though. When I went manhattan was way more chill and easy to get around.

From cabbies to doormen to people driving down the avenues who just got hit with a $9.00 toll (and made our cabbie roll down his window to explain "what hell" was going on) to $25 for delivery trucks (which people were saying was going to make everything they buy more expensive), to about $0.75 per fare for cabbies (I don't remember the exact amount). I thought it was interesting that the per fare charge for Uber was about one and a half times what it was for cabs. I suppose the cabbies have a better lobby/union.

Most of the people interviewed on the local news were against it. Then they interview someone from the mayor's/transportation office saying why it was necessary.

For those that lived the city, which I used to and still have friends there, the lack of cars from outside the island has been nice if not preferable. Albeit small sample size on my part.

But even if Manhattanites were pro-congestion pricing (generalizing) and this would irk them, what does Trump care? It's not like he's losing voters in Manhattan - all his base is in the other Burroughs of the a city. They might actually like this move and it stabs a sore spot for Hochul as she threatens to displace Adams, who the trump admin needs in place to manage the migrant removal of NYC.

Can someone explain why the federal government has to approve this type of pricing?

First, I've heard of this, but then again, I have not been to New York this millennium, and I have no plans to go back! lol

Are they Federally funded highways/Interstates involved?
(I don't know or even care that much since I'll never go up there)

The congestion pricing applies to vehicles entering the island which is only accessible by highway across the bridges or tunnels - which get federal funding.

You find pretty quickly that federal funding touches virtually all of NYC infrastructure.

Yes, it seems that there are less cars, hooray (I guess). If you ask the MTA leaders or Hochul if it's working, you'll get a big thumbs up because there are less cars.

MTA is still crying they need yet more money though (their constant need for more funds was a big selling point for congestion pricing and transit only types eat this up, but practically nothing gets improved when the MTA gets more money in its coffers).

What you won't hear about is the lost commerce in Manhattan from the traffic reduction. Many people are simply not going to deal with the public transit options for coming into the city and their money will be missed. You also won't hear about yet another reason prices will go up from more government interference. There are also businesses just south of the 60th street area that are being hit particularly hard (the toll is charged if you cross 60th St and go south).

But less cars, yay!

Next end federal funding for any roads with an HOV lane. They do nothing but increase congestion and emissions

Not necessarily, we find parking on the street all the time in Manhattan.

Couple of data points reported by WSJ:

Quote:

Travel speeds in the congestion-pricing zone have improved since the implementation of the tolling system, according to MTA data. Drivers are saving an average of 20 to 30 minutes driving into the district, the MTA said in its court filing. About 1.2 million fewer vehicles entered the congestion zone in January, it said.

No idea if the NYC Economic Development Corporation can be trusted if run by Democrats. I also do not know what a business-improvement district is the scope of it in relation to Manhattan

Quote:

About 35.8 million pedestrians visited business-improvement districts in the congestion-relief zone from Jan. 5 to Jan. 31, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation. That is 1.5 million more people compared with the same period in 2024.

Definitely not losing voters, he's not running for re-election again. But this is priceless!

The more this "fleecing of America" is made public, the less popular it is to admit you're a Democrat.
Chuck Shumer, Maxine Waters, AOC singing & whining in the streets "win", "win", "win" is embarrasing.
Karoline Leavitt walking in and answering left media with a fact sheet is hilarious. And with 400+ news sources to take the truth to the public, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, ABC have lost control of the narrative. I've started recording "Lefties Loosing It"... Pay attention to whom is protesting the most! LOL

He is losing some people with this. He needs to reign it in (get it?), it is not asking too much to not call yourself the king. I know first hand he is losing regular people with this specifically.

He has a chance right now with DOGE to undo FDR and LBJ's crimes against the constitution that may not come again.

It's called having a "sense of humor", Trump is clearly yanking their chain.

The leftist media and TDS types still don't (and probably never will) comprehend.
