Trump needs to appoint a new Commandant of the United States Marine Corps. Major General Peter D. Huntley would be a good Commandant. He's been the commander over MARSOC

How about the new CJCS come from a war fighting background?

I mean, the Air Force has nice business suits and all, and some pretty cushy base housing, but let's not kid ourselves...

Who do you think appointed this guy?

CJCS? Biden.

Chief of Staff of the Air Force? Trump.

Yep - some folks have bad judgment I guess
Admitting to, and correcting your own mistakes is a sign of great leadership.
Trump admitted to making a mistake? Has that ever happened?
You obviously didn't listen to his JR interview! No surprise though for one of the most uninformed posters on here, and that's being nice.

the generals are / were in a tough spot

they were not going to be promoted during the Obama administration if they resisted his social engineering of the military. Same during the Biden administration.

and none of them had the goal of retiring as a colonel

Not sure the President has a good choice amongst the four stars presently serving. As of February 2025, there are 41 active-duty four-star officers in the United States military. This includes:

  • Army: 11 generals
  • Marine Corps: 3 generals
  • Navy: 9 admirals
  • Air Force: 14 generals
  • Space Force: 3 generals
  • Coast Guard: 1 admiral

Why would you say there are no good candidates? They were likely all nominated for their third star right at the same time as Gen Cain.

After Milley was working with China behind Trump's back, Trump has no choice but to purge the JC of people who worked closely with the Marxists in control. That was closer to a coup than anything anyone on the right has ever done.

Sedition is a crime. Those at the top cannot be trusted, and that's awful. Milley needs to spend the rest of his life in Leavenworth.

I don't believe he should limit the candidates. Three and four stars are appointed positions that come with a promotion. The aculturation that happens among three and four stars is part of the peoblem when that culture has drifted in a group think of accepting DEI, CRT, and other crap.

There are a number of retired two stars that decided to retire because they didn't want to be a part of that. I would like to see someone like Dale Alford pulled from the retired list. He is the only person in Marine Corps history, as far as I know, that earned a combat action ribbon at every rank from 2ndLt to Major General.

The new CJCS nominee is an Air National Guard guy, too. I don't believe we've ever had a Reserve or Guard CJCS.

Having served under Brown as PACAF/CC, on the Air Staff when he was CSAf, and on the JCS, I don't think he was woke like he is made out to be (and I despise DEI in the military). He made some mistakes wading into the post George Floyd messaging and signed off on a memo the SecAF and UnderSecAF championed to put quotas (seemingly) on race based recruiting. But he was vocal about how he did not favor tipping the scales in favor of one group because it takes away from another, which is the antitheses of DEI. The USecAF at the time was only focused on DEI BS and Brown is a casualty of it, IMO.

His priorities as CSAF and CJCS were in alignment with Trump and Hegseth, even before they got into office, but he committed a few unforgivable sins to the anti-DEI movement. It is a shame. He was actually a major improvement over Milley as Chairman.

Never worked for him directly but agree with this take. I think he got caught up in the previous administration drive to DEI. If he would've refused then he would've been pulled and quite possibly replaced by someone even worse.

In fact I seem to remember a recruiting spot recently that went something along the lines of at 30k ft it doesn't matter your race only that you're an American Airman. Pretty strong video that gave me a feel of anti DEI.
Found it.

My guess is that this isn't so much that Trump didn't like the CJCS, but that, after his first term, he's determined to ensure that HIS person is put in place so that he's confident that HIS policies will be enacted.

Brown just didn't happen to be HIS person.

Hell, Trump even praised him prior to replacing him....

From October 2017

Quote:

There are approximately 900 Active-duty general/flag officers (GO/FOs) today of 1.3 million troops. This is a ratio of 1 GO/FO for every 1,400 troops. During World War II, an admittedly different era, there were more than 2,000 GO/FOs for a little more than 12 million Active troops (1:6,000)

Milley was Trumps guy. Trump passed over Gen Goldfein for Milley, which was a huge mistake. Goldfein was a great leader who would've been a much more strategic and apolitical CJCS. Water under the bridge now, though.
