Filled up last night at $2.559.

Haven't even been outside yet, today. First day off in a couple weeks so resting but about to head out. Will see if it's gone back up yet.

It used to get down to $2.429 or close and then shoot back up, but lately it gets here and then back up. We'll see......

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. Saw $2.39 in Killeen yesterday morning. $2.89 by the end of the day.

The way fuel supply works in general is:

Fuel is produced at a refinery.
It's then put on a pipeline or barge or combo and arrives at a Fuel Terminal.
The terminal can be seen as a staging ground. They are those huge tanks you see when you go by a fuel Terminal.
The tanks are all commingled fuel and suppliers take out space at these terminals.
Each supplier then posts a public price for what the fuel costs that day. It typically changes daily (excluding weekends) based on how the major gasoline indexes change.
in this case, the "rack low was 1.957 on 5/20 and was 1.942 yesterday (per gallon).

This is all before taxes, freight to a station etc.

This indicates the indexes have gone down to borderline flat.

All said, this means there's been no material price change on the index or in the market. If the same station has increased it's price by 50 cpg, it's not related to the fuel pricing or anything of that nature.

I paid $1.869 in Olive Branch, Mississippi this morning at Circle K. I thought they made a mistake entering the price.

It wasn't that long ago that the difference between 87 and 93 octane was $.20. Then it moved to $.30. Now we're at $.60. We need a reset.

That's $0.50-$0.60 cheaper than I've seen it in this neck of the woods in some time.

You're lucky.

I just Google the same city and the gas prices that come up are at least fifty cents higher than what you just paid.

As for me, prices went haven't gone down from the last time they went up, which was right before memorial day, so I guess it's got nowhere to go but up for the summer.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped. I hope it stays this way for a while but not really confident.

I'm on the NE side and it's not just a single station, it's all over the city (SA). Prices vary, but I see jumps everywhere.

And thanks for the info. Interesting.

We were near South Padre Island this week. Prices were down to 2.41 at the Port Isabel HEB and Walmart on Tuesday morning. By Tuesday afternoon they were up to 2.79.

I know prices aways fluctuate, but don't ever remember seeing such wild swings.

Yeah, I predict it'll be 3+ this next swing. It keeps going higher, then drops a bit for a week or two, then back up a lot ....rinse repeat.

We had a thread about this same subject on here a year or so ago. At this point I think the wild swings are just the status quo.

This may have been posted…

Back in 2010, I worked on project with a major convenience store chain…

They based their immediate price on the hourly spot price and could change their registers, pumps and sign immediately on the fly all day long…
