As a native of Huntsville, and one who grew up on the Walls Unit, and had tired of the Huntsville prison jokes…

There are prisons across the state. He will first go to the Collin County facility, then be transferred to one of the classification facilities in TDCJ (either Diagnostic or one in Fort Worth).

Once there, his gang affiliations, age, offender status, and family location will be taken into consideration. That information will determine what his long-term facility will be. Could be months before that happens.

That means he has had no prior convictions, even for misdemeanors, and no serious infractions at school.

I am glad the jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murdering Austin Metcalf, and I hope he receives a life sentence with no chance for parole. I am not surprised that hate-filled clashes focused on race erupted. Screw the pro Anthony supporters!

TDCJ now has a program for 17-24 year olds (maybe 23 can't remember exactly) so my guess he will go there after diagnostic.

Byrd is the old Diagnostic. It is a transitional facility only. That is where they go for classification purposes. Almost every incoming offender will go to Byrd first (I believe there is a new classification facility in Fort Worth now). The only inmates who are there permanently are ones who are trusties at the employee houses or grounds-tenders.

Walls is high security, but mostly older offenders. Ellis and Estelle are high security. Holliday is young, short-sentence offenders. Wynne and Goree are medium-high security.

Polunsky, in Livingston, houses death row and high security.

If I had to guess, he will go to a facility around Tennessee Colony or Dallas, as that's where his family is.

Yeah what I was wondering. Do they routinely bring out juvie records for sentencing? I would think that would be rare.

For the county I work for, we send those under 2 years to St jail Pam Lychner, more than 2 years go to Garza or Holiday and special cases to other units.

I think TDC just sits there and spins a wheel, where ever it lands that where you go.

Him being terrible on the stand is the predominant theory. He did not speak in his own defense before the conviction, nor did he do so before sentencing so the assumption is that it would have been detrimental to his case. Considering how he has cried at multiple points, he probably did not want to do it with all eyes on him so he can try to go to jail as a tough guy who was just keeping it real.
