Millions of unvaccinated people from all over the world met up with a lot of antivaxxers that were worried about autism and now you have an outbreak.

This likely over simplifies it. But those are ingredients for the current situation.

it's the imigrants but nice jab at people who are skeptical of the medical industry. definitely not earned.
If it were immigrants, which it may be, why isn't there a great number of cases and deaths outside the Mennonite and anti-vax community?
There are in fact two things, science and opinion; the former begets knowledge, the later ignorance. Hippocrates

The Texas Mennonite communities are several decades old, and all over the Panhandle/South Plains. And while not as backward as the Amish, they are conservative in dress and technology. Vax rates are very low.

They are often German in heritage, so blonde hair and blue eyes. But the Texas colonies have close ties with the Mexican colonies, and Spanish is a pretty common language. A little disorienting to see little blonde kids speaking German

Travel between colonies in Canada, the US, and Mexico are common, so it's not surprising to see disease transmitted.

One article I read suggests that a Mennonite from Europe actually brought the outbreak to a Mennonite conference in Toronto, Canada

The outbreak in West Texas is related to an immigrant Mennonite community and was brought in from another country. It has spread from them into local anti vaxers. It also seems that quite a few anti vaxers are rushing to get their kids vaccinated now that kids have died.

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you.

The Mennonite community was brought in several months ago?
I read that a Mennonite who had travelled in Europe brought the Measles to the West Texas Mennonite community and then it started spreading to the anti-vaxx crowd.

We've been told repeatedly that all the illegals have their shots…so the problem must be all the anti-vaxxers. Anti-vaxxers must have grown the measles in their butts or something, but I'm no doctor.
I used to go on a lot of yearly medical mission trips to Central and South America with a church outreach group. I was initially surprised to find out that many of those countries have robust vaccination programs. We never ran across any anti-vaxx people in all of the years I went with the group. I think it is because those people are poor and realize if their kid becomes really sick with something like whooping cough, that they will probably be sheet out of luck.

Can someone help explain how and why measles is all of a sudden getting tons of media attentions months into Trump?

Did a few months ago hundreds of people in one year not vaccinate?

How did this happen all at once?

If people have been vaccinated for decades, how did measles just appear in 2025?

I'm confused and very ignorant. Help me understand please.
Oh, geez.

Yes, we have been vaccinating people for decades, and those people don't get measles.

Then, in some specific areas, vaccinated adults chose to not vaccinate children.

Those children are getting the measles.

Because they are not vaccinated.

Their parents don't get the measles.

Because they are vaccinated.

Measles outbreaks have appeared many times and the news, yes, has covered it. It was covered enough that since I never had the measles, the vaccines when I was a child had one that was totally ineffective, I traveled constantly for work (including international), that I discussed with my physician and he immediately said by all means get a new vaccination. So, I got an MMR vaccine over ten years ago. Even though I had had the mumps, the measles vaccines doesn't come alone - it is only in the MMR.

The only reason it seems to you to magically just appear now is because conditions were right for you to actually notice the news about it.

The thing to keep in mind, much like Covid, is that those who have been fully vaccinated have a 3% chance of getting measles which is a very low chance and if you do get it it will be a mild case. The vaccinated are at low risk from the unvaccinated. The only issue might be over working of the medical resources in highly infected areas.

They speak low German rather than high German spoken in Germany. It's closer to Dutch. I've been around them in Wyoming and in Oregon and they were good people. South of the border there are lots of "old colony" Mennonites. Very traditional with little emphasis on education. More like Amish. Lots of alcohol and abuse in there with a dark outlook on religion. I can see some of these colonies not vaxing.

Too bad that white plus sign took a giant punch to credibility. Likely over simplifies it but doctor lies are why we're here.

This…..lost much respect for the medical profession

I think it's because the governments there will vaccinate you and your children against your will.
