Some people prefer to pay cash for everything.
And technically it was a theft, not a robbery, the latter implies the use of force to take something.
Actually, according to a jury I served on, the requirement is fear. The case I was on was a black homeless guy in SF who used a blade to rob a Walgreens, but according to the camera, the little asian guy didnt look afraid, so the idiots who served with me ruled non-guilty. Force didnt make one bit of difference per the law apparently, as said by the lawyers and judge on the case. All that mattered was proving fear, which the grainy video of the cameras for some reason couldn't determine. I guess he needed to lay on the ground and piss himself, but he dared to try to stop the POS before pulling the blade.
Also, Walgreens apparently have cameras from the 80s. I also learned that a hell of a lot of people determine guilt based on color of skin, not by what they do. And by color, I'm referring to black. Many even stated they already decided he wouldn't be guilty before things even started.
It's amazing the things I heard during that case, and I sure as hell hope that I never need my peers to determine my fate...
