I get your point and the sentiment. I'm assuming after they got out, they'd be deported and thus we rid ourselves.
The problem here is... someone involved in solicitation of a minor... in the case above, someone 12 years old... it is rarely an isolated event. Whether it is here or back in their home country, that predator is likely to pursue future victims. There is a strong likelihood that person had engaged in their home country and could be the reason they fled.
When it comes to these cases, I have no problem giving them 3hots and a cot for as long as we can keep them alive. The prisons find out about these types.
In rural west Texas, where I was DA, juries would do just as you wish. They would find defendant guilty on every count, give him the max sentence and then the judge would stack all the sentences. They would end up being sentenced to 200 to 400 years, depending on how many allegations we could prove.
I loved prosecuting in rural Texas.
In the case I referenced above, the victim of the trafficking and sexual assault had been sent to Philadelphia and was being "hosted" by an immigration service there. I don't remember the name of the group but their motto was "Welcoming Immigrants to America Since 1927."
This case was set for trial shortly after Trump was elected in 2016. We were making travel arrangements for the victim, who was now 15 years of age, and a guardian who was coming with her. This group also wanted us to pay the travel for a "security" team to come with her. They were convinced that with Trump coming into office that ICE would grab her from the courtroom and deport her.
It was almost comical what they thought of Trump AND the State of Texas.
The Friday before we were to start trial on Monday I was positive our Victim/witness was NOT going to be present for trial. That is why I came down to 15 years on the main actor.
What Catholic Charities and other NGOs think about Texas and our criminal justice system is over the moon crazy. Not even mentioning Trump.
It was maddening.
