Theft is a crime. Open an investigation, arrest the thieves, and send them to jail

You seem to have forgotten that theft/embezzlement is a victimless crime. It is not like it will affect the town's citizens by having programs and services scaled back or eliminated. Even if it did, it is no big deal. Meals on Wheels: Most Americans are obese, so missing a few meals isn't going to hurt any seniors. The Animal Shelter and all the shelters in Travis County are overflowing with dogs and cats, and the rest of Bastrop County has tons too. So putting down dogs as soon as they are caught in Elgin is not a big deal. Plenty of supply in the rest of the Austin metro. Gutting schools in Elgin? Does anybody really need to know how to read nowadays? The unbiased media is ready to tell you how to think on every single issue in society and which Democratic politician to vote for. This is a classic case of making a mountain out of a molehill. This will probably come as a shock, but I actually agree with the hardworking and thoroughly honest Elgin City Council; we should move on. Especially the vast, vast majority of people reading this who don't even live in Elgin or Bastrop County. At times, somebody has to put their foot down and that foot is me!!

Edit: yes I stole that foot joke from some movie.

Having been on a school board i was completely shocked how something happened on a smaller scale.

I thought people would go to prison but surprisingly little recourse even when it was blatant.

I drive through Elgin and manor twice a day 5 days a week on my work commute. The town is outgrowing its infrastructure at warp speed and TxDOT has totally f'ed the highway 290 corridor hard. Main highway between state capitol and largest city and the've done Jack **** in a decade to upgrade it. They just keep adding more traffic lights. Traffic is a freaking disaster every day in both towns now and it is way too late to start major construction without causing massive worsening for years.

As to Elgin theft, the small town is growing up and stealing brazenly while the government is still too small and local to implement effective controls. Go to the elgin Walmart and you will see the demographics that are electing local government and it is a tiny version of east Austin now.

I live just east of Giddings about a mile off 290. It usually takes me longer to get through Manor than it does to get to Manor.
