I recently participated in a food drive to help a local food pantry we support. We were able to collect a ton of food. There were some very big donations made by some people in very modest homes. It was humbling.

The youth in our group were exposed to "Democrat Crazy" as a part of the event. It was such a bizarre display. A note had been scribbled with Sharpie onto one of the bags we collected. Basically it said "Remember when you vote that Republicans are willing to let babies starve". I don't know what they were expecting to accomplish, but they may have achieved the opposite of their goal.

Our organization is not political. Nowhere in our solicitations, which were left prior to the event, was any political message stated. We were obviously out trying to help the hungry. Did the obvious Democrat fill the bag with food, baby formula, or something to feed the starving babies? Nope. It was not filled up; the contents were not useful for feeding the hungry - gross old candy and expired items.

At least that person was able to virtue signal.

Meanwhile, kudos to you and your group for actually helping.

I think they were trying to shame us? Most of our members probably are conservative? But I don't really know. So weird.

Gave away about $30k worth of food at our church today. Non food cost was probably about 1000 bucks to put on the event. Churches are way more efficient.

That's great!
The government would have given out $1000 worth of food at a cost of $30,000!

This story illustrates the typical leftist in a nutshell. Leftists are notorious for stingy charity contributions. They want to lecture and shame others into contributing THEIR money but claim credit and political advantage for it. The next time I see a leftist make a quiet, generous contribution with no expectation for gain or credit, it will be the FIRST time.

In this case, the ugly little hate goblins could have simply chosen to NOT participate, but instead they put trash in the bag and wrote a wildly misleading political lecture on the outside.

Yep.

What's even more pathetic is that you know that they went and bragged about it to their friends.
And probably put it on any social media that they have.

At least this will be an important life lesson for the young people who were there to witness this pathetic display for themselves. Actions speak louder than words and they will have this experience to bolster their own actions & opinions going forward.

That is the catch, for liberals, they are only babies when they can be exploited, otherwise they are lumps of cells.

The person who did that actually believes it and thinks they're being noble by doing so. In their minds, if the government doesn't do the good with your tax money then it's not good.

I know lots of charitable Democrats as well as conservatives. A lot of them are more conservative in some ways than they realize but they've chosen their team, and are progressive left in some ways they won't change. By and large, the Democrats I do know are less charitable overall but they also have tended to make life choices that have put themselves in less of a position to be so charitable in some cases. And often it is about the social display of advocating for charitable causes instead of the work of actually getting it done.

I think we should be careful of blanked condemning a group completely without making a qualifier that it isn't a universal characteristic. Then again if we are talking about the groups as a whole, tou do have to consider aggregate traits and tendencies.

There's a fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives that this story highlights for the world to see. Conservatives think it's our job to take care of the needy while liberals think it's the government's job. You were at a food drive doing the work while they don't think they should have to. Just vote Democrat and that's it. It's a fundamental difference that I see in my own conversations with liberal family members.

You're generally a very well spoken poster with great insight but that was a jumbled up mess of qualifiers and hedges. I think you meant to say it's not fair to label all liberals as selfish but I'm not sure. Not saying your message is wrong moreso that the post is a mess and I'm not sure what your message actually is.

I understood the gist of it. He was saying many Dems were less charitable but implying they had made job choices that that put them less able to be so charitable. Yet while not contradicting, generally see the opposite -- most liberals are almost too well-off in that they are not affected by all the bad policies their time in college put in their heads to push. The "science is real" signs are not in working class yards.

The rest was easy, beware group judgements, but was a form of yet stereotypes usually have some basis.

Hey, it's early in the morning and I was trying to be charitable.

But seriously, I was trying to say I know lefties that as individuals can be charitable and believe they are doing kind and compassionate things.
But they do side with a larger group that in aggregate pushes harmful and destructive policies. I think some of them are naively or willfully self delusional about it, and believe they are not doing harm, or refuse to see it.

I didn't check the time stamp. I was betting it was late at night. Similar effect probably. lol.

I do generally you're right. My liberal family members think they're being compassionate voting for Democrats and get offended when I tell them they're voting for policies that effectively make people perpetual children who are incapable of becoming independent.

Bad things happens when good men do nothing!

Sounds like you have a decision to make. There is only one decision you can choose since you are responsible for exposing non-political kids to a political reality.

Good luck!

I hate seeing the lines at food banks look reminiscent of the ones back when COVID hit and everything shut down.

What the lines remind me is that people of all walks of life are in need. It's good seeing a lot of states step up to help those in need, but it's even better to see private companies, like HEB and their $5 million to food banks and $1 million to Meals on Wheels, really step on and give when they don't have to.

It's a great time to see the good in people.

Props to you and others like you, OP, for doing what is needed for your fellow man.

As for the idiots trying to use this moment to signal and give clickbait to their social media accounts, they can go F8K themselves right off a very deep cliff.

Take whatever stuff was in that bag, put it in another bag and throw the bag away. And realize that Democrats are truly horrible, vile, awful, idiotic, lying, racist people.

But I get what you're saying. But truly, these people are just awful to their core. Don't let them bother you. Keep doing good.

Well it is free turkey month at our local food bank so we can expect to see the annual first timers show up in droves to sign up and then just take the turkey and leave the box of food.

Volunteering to help the needy is a good way to jack up your level of cynicism.

Being charitable with other people's money under the force of law is easy. Doing it with your own money....well, some folks have issues with that.

All for show. All to generate photo ops. If your pay and government aid run out and you are Immediately without food or the means to buy it for a few days or couple of weeks, you deserve the self inflicted extreme calorie reduces diet you get.

Food in America is extremely inexpensive and abundant. If you don't waste your money on the unlimited data cell plan and the latest generation phone, a dozen media subscriptions, a lease of a nice car, etc, you have the $20-30 a week it takes to get survival calories.
