I voted no because it's already illegal. No point in enacting the same law twice.

Did not know that, could you provide the previous law? Thanks in advance.

The prop was to make it a constitutional amendment so some future ****bag democrat couldn't change the law. The Texas constitution is pretty hard to change from my understanding.

Thank you for the clarification.
We really need to rewrite our laws concerning libel and slander.

We know why you voted no.

This was a constitutional amendment, which we do not currently have. HTH

I voted no because it was redundant to current law. It did not need to be the the Texas Constitution.

You have to think long-term here. Texas needs to be a conservative fortress. Im all for anything that can ensure that and if that means multi-layered laws, then so be it.

Of course, if you are a Democrat then I understand why you wouldn't vote for it.

15 and 16 were both stupid props which I voted for. There was no need for either of them, just rage bait for blue hairs.

Many on this board had no idea what a lot of the props contained. Some poster said he didn't like the sound of the words in one of the props LOL.

People like this shouldn't be voting. If you don't understand what you're voting for or against and vote anyways, screw you. You're the problem.

I agree with this but I also am against propositions. We are a republic not a democracy. The public should not be voting on legislation directly.

State of Texas Title 2 CH 11
Sec. 11.002. QUALIFIED VOTER. (a) In this code, "qualified voter" means a person who:
(1) is 18 years of age or older;
(2) is a United States citizen;

This is under the ELECTIONS CODE, which is a STATUTE that can be changed by the legislature.

What we voted for yesterday was a constitutional amendment, which can't.

its kind of interesting, most of the reaction to this news in reddit is "hurrr durrr, so nothing changed because there's never been any evidence that illegals vote" especially in the Austin subreddit....yet 57% of them voted against it.

Begs the question -- why?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

28% of voters are illegals?

23% are foreign born of which a high percentage are not U.S. citizens.

I'm surprised it was such a low percentage voting "No". I thought every Dem would vote "No".

Furthermore, Article VI of the Texas Constitution

Sec. 2. QUALIFIED VOTER; REGISTRATION; ABSENTEE VOTING. (a) Every person subject to none of the disqualifications provided by Section 1 of this article or by a law enacted under that section who is a citizen of the United States and who is a resident of this state shall be deemed a qualified voter; provided, however, that before offering to vote at an election a voter shall have registered, but such requirement for registration shall not be considered a qualification of a voter within the meaning of the term "qualified voter" as used in any other Article of this Constitution in respect to any matter except qualification and eligibility to vote at an election.

Since you already have to be a citizen to legally vote in Texas, another constitutional amendment stating so seems pointless.

If it adds another layer of security to keep Democrats from getting around it, then it's not pointless.

Democrats will cheat any way they possibly can.

On whether you should be a US Citizen to vote, across Texas 28% of voters said NO, you don't need to be a US Citizen

57% of voters in Travis County said NO
31.8% of voters in Harris County said NO
30.7% in Bexar County said NO

For comparison
25.6% in Brazos County said NO
19.4% in McLennan County (Waco) said NO
19.0% in Lubbock County said NO

Here's the text from the Texas Secretary of State
Quote:

Proposition 16 - SJR 37
"The constitutional amendment clarifying that a voter must be a United States citizen."

How in the world are there 1 in 4 people voting in our elections in Texas who think you don't need to be a citizen?

In Austin it's more than half.

Even in Lubbock and Waco, it's still 1 in 5 people who think it's cool to vote in our elections if you're not a citizen.

The long march through the institutions is complete. A generation is now of voting age that was taught that the United States is not only irreparably racist but also evil beyond redemption. Noncitizens who are not assimilated to love the United States or adopt American culture are the key to destroying what's left of the US. Of course these self-loathing Americans vote to let foreigners twist the knife.

You did a good job of pointing out the pointlessness of the proposition.

Travis County is California in Texas. Not surprising at all. It's the most left-wing county in the state.

The worst POTUS candidate in history (Kamala Harris) won with 68-29 against Trump in 2024.

Colin Allred beat Cruz 70-27.

That's how stupid people are in Travis County.

If we ever suffer a missile attack, I hope someone shares the GPS coordinates for Travis County with those sending the missiles!

Cool and don't care. Any friction it causes for Democrats is worth it.

Now that this passed, hopefully those 28% will not be allowed legally to vote in the next election.
