For every white woman who wants to leave, there are 10 women from Asia who want to come in.

Do we really need that many nail salons?

By all means let's keep those. If you are one of the olds, pedicures are a godsend. I've had two in the last 5 months and my feet never felt better. Circulation has improved, I haven't snagged a sock (regular or support) nor even a pair of underwear since. My feet don't look like something out of a horror movie and the grandkids aren't grossed out when I go barefoot or go swimming. Plus I'm not embarrassed when I go to the dermatologist for my biannual skin cancer prevention appointment. It pays for itself. Life is good.
I just can't decide if I want to learn any Vietnamese or if it's just better to know that they're talking about me without knowing what they're actually saying.

They have romanticized living abroad as they only see the positives in most of the social media they gorge themselves on. They have a lack of knowledge as to what it is actually like. You are often relatively poorer as things cost more in general, and you get less for your money, and for all the positives living elsewhere, there are many subtle negatives and limitations that don't get highlighted.

I know a few that have tried to move abroad and all came back, some came back as better people, but most came back as the same and disgruntled person because it didn't work out. They see the instagram shots of living in Bali, Thailand and Europe and have this fantasy that it is so simple to move there and find work and live this glamorous life. It works out for such a select few, I would venture less than 5% make it a long term reality. But even if it short lived, they soon realize there are struggles there too. Traffic, finding stable income, visa requirements, cultural differences, missing family that doesn't visit, etc. They are basically trading one struggle at home for another abroad. They will never comprehend how good they have it here in the USA.

With that said, I will be a slow traveler when I retire in the not too distant future. Probably share 6 months abroad and 6 months in the US. Not because I hate my country enough to leave permanently, but we live in an insanely big world and I want to see it all. Also, cost of living abroad in many places is substantially cheaper as a slow traveler, rather than being in the US. I have seen most of what I want to in the US and enjoy other cultures. But I will always love my country and have a home base here to come back to.

I really like some places I have been to overseas, but not sure I would want to live in them. I think people mistake the vacation visit experience from the day to day living experience of paying bills and taxes, shopping, buying appliances, working with repair contractors, finding a place to live, employment issues, etc. there are definitely some advantages and disadvantages. If you've already established yourself and are basically near to or in retirement then you are on more of a geographically flexible retirement than living as an expatriate. The same could be said to some degree in working for a big multinational corporation and being transferred or moved to an overseas office. The business often does much or most of the logistical heavy lifting for you, and you step right into a curated living experience. It's not like up and moving overseas with some savings and no prearranged employment and trying to get a work visa and resident status, etc. in many places, as a corporate American expat, you are sort of a second tier social elite or in the corporate technocrat class. Most overseas cultures are subtly more hierarchical than America and if you've already are well established in a career, you step into the middle of that overseas. It is a different experience.

I got to work in Singapore for most of a year and also a few weeks off and on in Australia and as an American whose employer made all the arrangements, it was quite easy. Fortunately both those places were English speaking and culturally relatable to Americans and we stood well in the established social hierarchy as former/current British colonials.

As one who has lived abroad for more than a year (twice) there are a lot more difficult things than that.

how do you set up cable service if you don't speak the language? how do you set up a rental contract and what do you do when the washing machine breaks?

what happens when the mafia gets your credit card and starts charging .01 penny to set up their next big purchase and the credit card company blocks your card?

what happens when you leave your cell phone in a cab?

who are all your new friends going to be? how do you get a card to pay for your bus rides? how do you make a bank payment from your american account when your phone code is to an american number? where do you have all your bills and mail delivered to?

This is a social media contagion

Agree with this. Social media has presented us (women being more vulnerable IMO) with a view of a much bigger world. When we were young, talking mostly of growing up in the 70's, 80's, 90's, our world was our neighborhood, school, your athletic team, and a bit more if you traveled a lot or spent summers elsewhere.

After social media (and the internet) the world opened up with pictures, videos, descriptions of what is out there. Even if it is fake, filtered, AI, etc. And that has left people, more common with women, with a feel of missing out or dissatisfaction. Just look at the status of the dating world. A mess due to unrealistic expectations. Most men I know these days are pretty darn satisfied. I know the genders are wired differently. But almost every woman I know is dissatisfied with some or several parts of their lives.

99.9% of these women will not move to another country. Just continue to be their usual miserable selves and keep complaining with no self awareness. A treat for everyone else.

In all seriousness, if I were single and dating right now, I would probably almost exclusively consider Eastern European women. Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, whatever.

I think people are taking the response too literally.

What this poll suggests to me is that women aged 18-44 have the highest level of discontentment combined with a lack of belief they can meaningfully influence the outcome to change their condition. This is based on the idea that "desiring to escape" is a common motif experience for characters facing discontentment and powerlessness.

The reason I think the difference between men and women is because men tend to turn inward as a means of coping.

Why are women discontent:
1. Low quality and quantity of men for relationships. I think the circumstances around dating make this such a drastic issue.
2. Work sucks. This is experienced by men as well.
3. Social media leading to hyper comparisons which creates jealousy and envy.
4. Hormones and other powerful drugs messing up healthy body function.
5. Families are distant and more often then not estranged.
6. Porn. Consumption by boys. Consumption by girls now too.

I have a friend who is in the market right now.

I'm trying to steer him towards Vietnam, The Philippines and maybe South Korea.

In his mid-50s, he's had enough of old High School flames with emotional problems and crazy family dynamics who are looking for his bank account to come rescue them.

This is a reflection of a global trend where woman are just generally unhappy. To me it's no different than the trend we're seeing with woman and men going opposite directions politically. Liberals are generally less happy, that's been true forever. This survey really just reveals that more women are liberal than they were 10 years ago.

Damn, sorry to hear...my wife is 1st gen Korean, and we both agree that Vietnamese are the "coolest" asians. They are the most blue collared and working class and more likely to assimilate imo. I have met vietnamese with East Texas and Cajun accents.

There are always exceptions though and often "more than meets the eye".

I very rarely accept a blind date because single, female gold diggers and misfits over 50 years old are plentiful. I agreed only because she is the sister of a dear friend's wife. My friend told me not to do it because she is a liberal loon, but I gave in to his persistent wife only because we get along very well. I made a big mistake by not taking my friend's advice.

I picked her up at 7 PM up at her home. When I opened the car door for her, she noticed my red, Make America Great Again hat on the back seat, where I left it after playing golf that morning.

Before I closed her door, she asked, "Good God, you aren't one of those MAGA crazies, are you?"

I did not reply, and decided to ignore her question as I got into the car. When we began to drive away, she said, "You didn't answer my question."

I answered, "I'm a conservative and proud of it."

She responded with, "You need higher standards."

I circled her block, stopped in front of her home, and said, "Our evening is over. Good night."

She was equally stunned and clearly pissed, and after a very awkward silence of about 10 seconds, she got out of the car and I left.

If she was trying to be cute or to make jokes, she will know to not do so with insults.

My friend told me that she ranted to his wife about me being an "obnoxious fool." Oh, well.

I would happily pay for her deportation.

On #1 - I would flip that around. There aren't that many women attractive enough to men to be in a relationship with. The internet has allowed women to be more....like women. Which is to say, they excel with social media and extrovert behaviors (including whining and complaining) while most men do not look for those sorts of things in a woman they want a relationship with (as opposed to just sex). This ties in to #3 on your list.

Unfortunately, I'm in the dating world as a 47 year old divorced father of three. I work a lot and at all hours and days as an ops manager for an O&G service company. Needless to say, I don't have the time to go out nor a place to meet women. I have tried dating apps. You would not believe the acidic things women put in their bios on these. Given my proximity to Austin a lot of women from there pop up. Stuff like "MAGA need not apply" followed by middle fingers are the most common. You never see the opposite though. And I certainly don't write anything like that. I really don't care what your political leanings are when we just might be having dinner. The thing that kills me though is it always says the same thing "Lives in Austin, Tx. From (insert random city), California. They're destroying Texas like a cancer.

Good, let them leave. I think once they get out there, they're going to be very shocked by what they see. And realize how good they actually had it here. They are really stupid people. They actually think they're victims.

In fact, I hope they all go to Gaza and the Middle East.
