the Afghan that shot the NG men in DC was a CIA contact, hence he got here.

I'm a retired DoD civilian employee, with decades on the intel side of the business.

I know there's probably a whole lot I still DON'T know, but geezus, what are the reasons we're happy that we have a CIA?

Everything that I can think of that we've heard about in the open is a failure (Bay of Pigs, dropped ball on 9/11, various assassination attempts, regime change attempts, etc.)

What am I forgetting, or else why are we glad, as citizens, that we have a CIA?

How many covert successes are there really out there?!

All three letter agency's are as pointless as tits on a bull. If they are not busy killing American citizens or dogs, they are busy spying on Jennifer and her facebook page about losing her boyfriend to Heather.

AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon allowing the NSA/CIA to spy on everyday American's. I'm sure Tiffany next door with her Double D tits were a matter of national security.
Taxes are just a yearly subscription to the country you live in.

I can't point to them because I would be breaking the law….but those success do exist. I just have to leave it there for everyone's benefit.

More than we'll ever know. That said, like the original concept of the CIA when it morphed from the WWII OSS during the Cold War era. But then mission creep happened and they were conducting black ops that did topple governments, assassinate heads of state.

The Church Committee decades ago held televised hearings about the CIA. They were supposed to clean up their act and stick to foreign spying, only except when tracking a know foreign with suspicious connections while in the US. Back then, not a lot of Soviets nor Chinese immigrants were roaming around. So wasn't hard for them to limit their domestic activities.

Hasn't been the same since 9/11. CIA doesn't care foreign or domestic. They will go after anyone.

Someone has to run the country. It ain't the politicians and it sure as hell ain't the American people.

what i can say unequivocally is the greatest threat in the world to american freedom is americas 3 letter agencies. especially the cia and any other dept of similar ilk. there very existence is predicated on a perpetual enemy. no enemy no need for them. the cia especially should be disbanded as JFK intended to do before he was assasinatef 10 days later.

….Then you know you never trust those guys. They are friends in the morning and at night, they will cut your throat. They do. Not have the same value system as most Americans.

Last we forget MKULTRA. Seriously, what demented fk thought anything about that was proper?

I watched All the President's Men last night. I know it was a Nixon smear job, but it led me to go refresh my memory on Mark Felt, Hoover, Clyde Tolson and that Star Chamber that was the FBI. Thanks to Hoover's secretary and Tolson, we will never know the crimes the FBI committed when Hoover ran it. Truly sickening

I was just coming to say MKUltra. I mean, we secretly spent a decade drugging thousands of our own citizens with LSD, some ti the point where we literally erased their minds from existence, all in a misgotten attempt to develop a mind control device.

Although in the process we also created Timothy Leary and the entire counter culture movement. So we freaked out, and literally created Charles ****ing Manson to shut it all down.

Another interesting note is prior to Sidney Gottlieb getting his hands on it, LSD was primarily being used in psychiatric medicine and was showing early positive results in treatment of various psychosis. But the CIA had to derail us for 50 years on the potential positive implications with their nefarious meddling.

We should disband the CIA and, with all we have done for Israel, have them loan us some Mossad folks. That would be a win-win.

MKUltra is like something you'd expect Nazi intel agencies to eventually do, had they won the war.

I think at this point you could reasonably conclude the three letter agencies run the world. The massive push back against populism all over the world, the massive surge in censorship and pro-government propaganda aren't organic. I wouldn't call you crazy if you told me the CIA had Kennedy assassinated and that was effectively a coup that created the world we live in today, where the US intelligence apparatus has taken over. Worse still I would be willing to accept that it was done to counter the Soviets then when the wall fell they turned inward instead of taking the win for freedom and returning the power to the American people.

Another Toricelli moment seems to be needed. Or even abolition. Sure it will return, but maybe less malevolent. The Russians managed to get rid of the KGB as they knew it, and the FSB revival is not quite as repressive. Definitely more accessible to Russians.

The very nature of USA ID being so behind color revolutions is a dishonest and manipulative practice. That is distorting world events. That's not behavior of a good actor. At very best its those of only a self-serving one.

The CIA has no regrets employing terrorist to fight terrorists. The error was allowing the terrorists into the U.S.A. That is the politicians fault.

Going to throw a challenge flag on this. There are many, many instances of the agencies coming out to announce how they stopped an attack. The concept that they humbly plod away shunning recognition is asinine and incorrect.

Purge all agencies. It's time to hit the reset button. Theses agencies serve themselves, they have no allegiance to the Country or its citizens.

As with many government agencies it started as a noble idea. Unfortunately it's turned into a cesspool of fraud and bad king making. It would probably damage us to eliminate it, but we need to get the left wing idealogues out of that business.

The CIA is the most profound criminal organization in the world. They are free to commit as many crimes as they want and then ordered to lie about them, in pursuit of the "real criminals". They are the mob with an Air Force. It's disgusting.

Unfortunately methods and tools which were developed to protect the USA have been focused on attacking US citizens and other nations to promote ideology and politics. This was never the plan for the CIA, it ran off the rails.

There's a lot of good work performed by many good people that work in the 3 letter agencies. The evil forces inside these agencies are compartmentalized to the extent that their coworkers don't know who they are and what they are up to. There are literally separate universes inside these agencies.

CIAs mission got cloudy when they started seeing spies in every shadow, which was not long after its establishment. They have done a horrible job of making that distinction between national enemies and regular citizens with controversial opinions.

Mentioned it before...but was formally invited (Ltr) to interview with them as I was finishing Grad school. Glad I declined...I think I was more "afraid" of them than the purported enemies they sought.
